*Around 8 months later.*

Nikki is sat at her desk, scrolling through her pathology notes on her computer.
Suddenly, she was struck with a sharp pain in her stomach.

"Owch!" she cries.
"You okay, Nikki?" Clarissa asks, peeking up from her computer.

"Yeah, just period cramps that's all." Nikki replies with a small smile, knowing full well that she isn't on her period as the pain eased to a dull ache.

Clarissa and Jack had gone for lunch so it was just Nikki and Thomas in the Lyell.

Thomas was in his office, whilst Nikki was finishing off her notes in the meeting room as it was more room and a lot cooler as it was the middle of summer.

She was struck with the sharp pain in her stomach again but this one was slightly worse.

"Ow!" She winces, holding her stomach, moving back her chair and breathes shakily. The pain lasts for a few seconds until it turned back to a dull ache. Nikki sighs and gets back to her work.

Something in the notes had puzzled her so she left the meeting room to Thomas's office for his opinion.

As Nikki was walking to Thomas's office, the pressure in her stomach became so unbearable, she is hit with a wave of dizzness, loses her balance and she collapses to the floor in pain.

"Fuck!" she cries out, catching Thomas's attention.
"Nikki!" He rushes out his office to help the female pathologist up.
"Are you okay?" He questions.

"I don't know...aahh it hurts." She falls back to the ground clutching her stomach, tryna stifle her tears, "The pressure it's like cramps but 1000 times worse." She pants, resting her back again the wall.

Beads of sweat started to form on her head as she couldn't contain her tears anymore and cries and screams out in pain.

All of a sudden, she felt something wet form under her.

"Shit, now I have wet myself." She blushes then cries in pain again.
"Nikki...." Thomas says, looking down at her.
"What!" She shouts back.

"I don't think that's urine..." He finishes.
"Well what else could it be." She snaps, as she looks at the slight bloodstained fluid underneath her.
"I think you're in labour." Thomas continues.

"Labour?!?! I'm not pregnant." Nikki laughs weakly, before closing her eyes, throwing her head back and screaming through her teeth.

She attempts to unbutton her jeans to see if that would relieve the pressure, but it didn't as she cries out as the pains got sharper and sharper. So she pulls her jeans down to her ankles, then her underwear.

"Holy shit. I think I can feel a head." Nikki gasps as another sharp pain struck her.

Noticing the head, Thomas takes off his watch, washes his hands, rolls his sleeves up, snaps on a pair of white rubber gloves and grabs some clean tea towels from the kitchen area.

He returns to Nikki, who was panting and crying out in pain. He helps her take off her jeans and underwear and places them next to her.

"Good girl Nikki, you're doing so well!" He reassures as he grabs the baby's head.
"No I'm fucking not." She shouts, breathing heavily.
"It burning." She winces.

"It's got a lovely head of hair." Thomas chuckles, glancing up at Nikki. She had tears in her eyes and beats of sweat dripping from her forehead.

"Really?" Nikki pants before she's struck with another sharp contraction and she pushes like her body knew what do.

"Ahhh fuck." She screams through her teeth throwing her head back in pain as the pain became extreme and unbearable.
"I can't do this. It hurts so much." She cries out, breathless.

"Yes you can, come on one more big push and your baby is out." Thomas cheerfully says as he notices Nikki wincing in pain obviously in the midst of a contraction.

Nikki nods, takes a deep breath, grabs her knees, pushing her chin into her chest and pushes with all her might.
"AAAHHH!!" She screams.

"Here it comes Nikki. Come on!" Thomas encourages, glancing back up at her again.
"AAAAHHHHHH!" Nikki cries through her teeth, pushing as hard as she could.

She throws her head back and closes her eyes in sweet relief as the corridor fell silent.

In a slow motion blur to Nikki, the sound of little, precious cries filled the corridor as Thomas quickly places the baby on her chest and Nikki sighs in content, heart pounding, before wincing at the afterbirth.

"Well done, Nikki," He cheers, "It's a girl!"
Nikki opens her eyes again and smiles softly, shaking in complete shock of what had just happened.

Thomas rushes back into his office to find something to cut and the umbilical cord with. He sterilises it and cuts the cord.
He grabs a tea towel and gently rubs the baby's back to keep her warm.

Nikki holds the baby's back and head as black mascara tears stream down her face.

"How am I gonna explain this to Jack?" She sniffs.
"I will explain it to Jack, don't worry." Thomas reassures. "It is his kid, right?"

"Yes, she's Jack's!" Nikki scoffs.
"Sorry." Thomas held his hands up in defense.
"It's okay, I'm sorry." Nikki cries.

"What for?" Thomas asks, puzzled.
"The mess, the screaming, you delivering my baby I didn't even know I was pregnant with." Nikki sobs.

"Don't be stupid, Nikki. You could of never know this was gonna happen. For God sake you didn't even know you were pregnant let alone give birth. I'm just glad I was here or who knows what would of happened!" Thomas chuckles, slightly.

"I'm glad you were here too." Nikki smiles, weakly. "Thank you."

"I'm cold." Nikki shivers, as she stares at the little baby shivering under the tea towel too. "And so is she."

"Right, yes!" Thomas gets up, goes into his office and grabs the throw that is over his sofa.

He returns to Nikki and the baby and drapes it over her.

"Do you want me to call an ambulance?" Thomas queries.
"No, not just yet, please. Jack will be here any minute and I don't wanna go alone." Nikki pleads.

"Okay, 5 more minutes and if Jack hasn't returned then I'm calling one." Thomas replies, sternly. "God, Nikki you're so stubborn."

"Thank you." Nikki sighs. "Hey I'm not stubborn."

*5 minutes later*

"Right that's it I'm calling an ambulance and Jack will just have to catch up." Thomas exclaims, but before Nikki could reply he walks into his office and calls an ambulance.

Nikki was to weak and exhausted to argue so she's just shrugs and stares down at the now sleeping baby on her chest and patiently waits for the ambulance.

"Ambulance is on it's way, Nikki." Thomas states as walks back to Nikki and croutchs down next to her to keep her company as she waits for the ambulance to arrive.
