You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
— Dr. Seuss
The truth is that Neteyam too had some trouble sleeping some nights, he often had dreams about his near death experience but they weren't too frequent, fortunately.
They were always the same, the scene of four years earlier repeated itself:Neteyam's breathing slowed down until it almost seemed to disappear.
"Neteyam! Neteyam!" his family's yelling felt distant as his vision went black.
He woke up in a cave and looked around,
well this isn't like I imagined the afterlife, the boy thought."Oh no, my dear child, you're too young to be here" a voice echoed in the cave.
"W-Who are you?" Neteyam frenetically looked around.
"I'm your Great Mother, Eywa" the voice said.
"Gre...Great Mother" Neteyam bowed his head.
"My child, I have a mission for you" the voice said "You need to save my family from auto-destruction, do this for me and I'll grand you the wish that every Na'Vi has...You'll be happy."
"I'll gladly do anything you ask me, Great Mother, but...I don't know anything about your 'family' or how to save them" the boy explained.
"You'll know everything you need to when the right times comes."
"How will I know?"
The voice, first suave, now had become the voice of an ordinary Na'Vi girl "I don't believe in second chances" the voice went back to how it sounded before "Remember this words, my child, when you hear them you'll understand, you'll help the person who tells them."
"I understand, Great Mother" Neteyam bowed his head.
"In return for your help I will make you happy" the voice echoed.
"Thank you for your generosity, Great Mother"
"You need to go now, my child, your family needs you."
After that the boy woke up in his marui, his wounds were gone and his family was around him.
"Neteyam!" Tuk cried hugging her older brother "You're alive!"
"Neteyam..." Jake smiled.
"My Neteyam" Neytiri hugged him too.
That night, with Selene in his arms, he had another dream though, a much happier one.
"Teyam!" Selene smiled at him. They were in the forest. The Lo'Nan ran in his arms and hugged him.
"Ma Selene" the boy smiled in the hug.
Neteyam couldn't be happier, he was at home, in the forest, and with his mate.
"I need to tell you something" the girl pushed him away by resting her hands on his shoulders, but the boy's hands were still on her hips.
"Tell me everything, my love" the Omaticaya tilted his head and smiled.
"I'm carrying your child, your grandmother, the Tsahìk, confirmed it" Neteyam stopped his movements while registering his mate's words.
He then fell on his knees, face in front of Selene's stomach, "My baby..." he smiled before kissing her stomach.
Much to his dismay he woke up, the sadness of waking up vanished as he felt Selene's arms tighten around his torso, he looked down and saw the girl smiling against his chest.
At least she wasn't having a nightmare, apparently. He smiled and removed some of her hair from her face, before looking out of the marui.
It was still dark.
He thought it was best to get up and go in his marui before being seen by someone, Neteyam moved a little but Selene's didn't want to let him go.
"Don't leave me" she whispered "please" she slightly opens her eyes.
"All right, love" the boy smiled and laid back down "I'll stay, go back to sleep now" he caressed her cheek with his hand.
"Promise?" she tilted her head to look in the boy's eyes.
"Promise" Selene smiled hearing Neteyam words and went back to sleep.
"I hear you, Neteyam" she whispered before falling asleep.
Was that a confession? Neteyam asked himself, or is she just saying meaningless words due to her sleepiness?
Neteyam ignored that thoughts and went back to sleep.
Was this the happiness Eywa talked about?
