When Mrs. Cook placed another piece of grilled chicken on her nearly empty plate, Alison freaked out.
"Ma'am!"
The older woman gave her an astonished look, eyes narrowing with disbelief from behind the lens resting on the bridge of her nose. "Do I need to prescribe some medicines that would help boost your appetite?"
"But I just ate my piece," Alison cried.
"That was a really tiny piece you ate. Have some more..."
Alison shot out from her chair. "I'm done. I can't be late for homeroom again."
Mrs. Cook sighed and shook her head. "Your mother gave me headaches back then, I guess this is deja vu, huh?"
This piqued Alison's interest. "What... what's that about?"
"Sit down and eat some more then I'll tell you what it's about."
Alison hesitated. "I have to go, ma'am. Thanks for the meal."
Wendy and her friend suddenly joined her on her way to class. Their unexpected presence came as a surprise but Alison didn't give them any attention as she crossed the school lawn and headed for the building in front. She heard them giggling and whispering behind her and as annoying as it was, she still refused to deliver them with her attention which was exactly what they were obviously craving.
Once Alison arrived at the door to the classroom, she pushed it open and...
"Move."
She got shoved to the side by Wendy's friend. They both snickered and walked into class with satisfaction. Alison stared after them, perplexed.
"Looking for the red flags in our class?" Daphne appeared right beside her just then. "That would be Wendy, Bianca and Jace. Those three are just headaches, so I'll suggest you pay zero attention to them."
Alison shrugged. "I'm not planning on paying attention to anyone around here." She walked into class and found Jace sitting in her desk like he didn't have a single care in the world.
He grinned from ear to ear when he saw her. "Did you sleep well?"
She gave him a bored expression. "That's my seat."
"It is?"
Alison kept quiet and observed him for a few seconds. "What do you want?"
"Did you think about my proposal?" He asked with a smirk.
"Is it Friday already?"
Jace gave a small chuckle. "So you did think about it then?"
"No. I only asked because I just didn't think you'd bug me until Friday," she said in the calmest voice she could manage with an attempt to not draw any attention from their classmates. "I have no desire to grant you your wishes. Get up."
Jace glared at her. "I don't think you're in any position to decline. And can you stop acting all serene and elegant? It doesn't suit you. The Alison I used to know would have shoved me off this seat in seconds."
"Stop acting like you know me too well." She glared at him and he pointed at her face.
"There it is!" He exclaimed with a ridiculous smile on his face. "That's the look I'm looking for."
"You provoking me isn't going to make me consider your stupid request." She stepped closer to him tentatively with narrowing eyes. "Get up, Myers, I do not have time for this." Best to get rid of him quickly before it turns into drama.
Unfortunately, he didn't budge one bit. "Shall we have lunch together later?"
This caught her off guard and she responded with a deep frown.
