CHAPTER 6 - Missing You

"Wait a minute!" Aly said as she leaves the sofa. Someone is knocking on the door. Who could it be? She isn't expecting her friends to visit. Her mother also didn't say anything about a visitor coming today. As soon as she opens the door and looks at this surprise guest in the eye, tears couldn't avoid to rain down from her eyes. "Alec!?"
   "Surprise, sis!" Alec said with a wide smile in his face. Raising both arms wide in the air.
   Aly didn't waste any time and hugs her brother tight. "I thought you'll be free next week!"
   "Well, I wanted to surprise you and Mom a bit," Alec explained why he's out in the cells earlier than Aly thought. "Speaking of, where is she?"
   "At the grocery," Aly answered.
   "Oh," Alec commented.
   "Omg, I really can't believe it!" Aly exclaimed. Happy like a little child can be. "Let's head inside now!"

   Alec is in his room, laying on the bed, just playing with his fingers. What happened for these past few days was overwhelming for him. For seven years, he has been staying in jail. Now, he's back at his home with his mother and younger sister. He's back in the process of adapting.
   Aly entered. "Hey, bro, what are you doing?"
   "Nothing," Alec answered. "It's just... I just got out, so, life pretty much restarted for me."
   "Well, isn't that a good thing?" Aly asked. "You have a second chance to 'rewrite' everything."
   "Not really." Stress enters Alec. "I'm even so behind with my academics compare to my other batch mates!" Because he was sent to jail, he didn't manage to graduate second year high school. Unlike his former classmates, who already finished college. "Plus..."
   "Plus???"
   "I can't rewrite how Funneh looks at me now."
   "Aw, come on. Don't be a pessimist," pity enters Aly. Then, an idea enters her mind. "I know an idea!"
   "What?" Alec asked.
   "Come on," Aly invited as she goes towards her brother to drag him out from his bed. "I'll introduce you to my friends!"
   "Aren't you going to be embarrassed?" Alec asked as he steps the ground. "Your brother is a criminal."
   "You're already out of the cells." Aly replies with a painful smile on her face. She's hurt that her brother's self-esteem dropped hard.
   "But I still have a criminal record-"
   "Hush. Store them in a box and bury it somewhere," Aly said as she taps her brother in the shoulder. "You were set free because you're given a second chance in life."
   A lot of thoughts are circling Alec.
   "Now, come on!" Aly drags her brother out of his room.

   "Guys, meet my brother Alec," Aly introduces Alec to her friends.
   While Alec is being introduced, anxiety suddenly enters him. He hasn't been associated to many people for a long time. During his prison days, he avoids talking to his cellmates. Not wanting to be accidentally linked to groups with bad reputation.
   "Nice to meet you, Alec," Aly's friend with green hair said. "So, how are you?"
   "Everything is fcking great!" Alec unexpectedly said that due to his anxiety boiling hard. Even he, himself, went shocked with what he just said.
   "What the..." Aly commented in her mind. Did her brother just curse? All her life, Alec always reminds her to not say bad words.
   Alec started sweating. All of Aly's friends are looking at him. Gladly, they're cool people. None of them judges him for what he just said.

   Since that day, Alec always gets dragged by Aly to go out with her friends. It kind of alarmed Alec that they usually go to the bar. But he decided to not say anything about it because he wants to be a cool brother.

   "Hi, Funneh... Remember me...? I'm Alec, your classmate." Alec attempts to message Funneh while in the bar with Aly and her friends. More hang outs passed by, still no response.

   "Such a "good" time..." Alec commented. After checking his phone, no reply from Funneh yet. He doesn't expect any response because of everything has happened between them, but, it just hurts for him that his beloved is still ignoring him.
   "Believe this time, dude," Aly's friend with green hair said. He's been observing Alec and what's in his phone for a couple of minutes now.

   Despite of Alec getting along with all of Aly's friends, there are times where he chooses to be just in the corner and eat tubs of ice cream whenever he's feeling down.

   "Just one more pint... or five," Alec ordered.
   "Five tubs of ice cream, coming right up!"
   "Does it even matter anyway?" Alec asked in his mind. He saw this one girl earlier with blue eyes. It instantly reminded him of Funneh. Pain immediately entered his heart at that exact moment. Despite of years that went by, it's still clear to him how much she hates him the last time they've talked.

   "I had so much fun, bro!" Aly said. Both her and Alec are from another party again.
   Alec is distracted with his thoughts. He should be smiling like his sister because the party was fun, but... Suddenly, he started having a breakdown when the lights went brighter. It must have startled him.
   "Alec, are you okay!?"
   "Shit, maybe I miss you..." Alec thought. Thinking of Funneh.

   "Tell me the truth..." Alec said while holding a bottle of beer. After he managed to calm down a bit, Aly decided to take her brother beside the beach to get some fresh air. "Is it over, Aly?" talking about his chance with Funneh. "Maybe I was lying when I told you... Everything is great." He unexpectedly throws the bottle of beer to the sand. "Everything is f c king great!"
   Aly went in shock! She doesn't know what to say. After seeing her brother having a breakdown twice in a row today, she fully realized that Alec is in love with Funneh. It's not just any crush, like what he said.

   "Still no reply..." For days, for weeks, Alec checks his phone from time to time. Checking if Funneh has finally responded to his messages. "Such a good time-" he suddenly remembered what one of Aly's friend told him. That he should believe. "I believe it this time!" he said with a bright smile in his face. Deciding to be positive despite of everything.

   "How to say I'm sorry to her?" Alec asked Aly's male friends. He explained to them about his situation. Right now, they're in a mall to check some stuff.
   "Lad, give it time," Aly's friend with green hair advised while patting Alec.
   "There's no need to worry," Aly's friend with brown hair added.
   "Thank you for your advice, guys." Alec showing his appreciation.

   "I see some shining, dazzling new clothes up there on the 3rd floor!!!" Gold squealed in excitement as she grabs Funneh with her.
   Yes. Alec and Funneh are currently in the same building.

   "Hi! May I enter?" Alec asked. Then, he shows the bouquet of blue flowers he's holding. "I came here to give this to Funneh."
   "Sorry, but only people Funneh knows may enter," one of Funneh's guards stopped Alec from entering Funneh's room at the backstage.
   "We were in love. Now... we're strangers," Alec said through his mind. He feels frustrated.

   "Two more shots, please," Alec ordered another set of wine to drink. He's back in the bar to drink his problems away. "It doesn't matter anyway..."
   "Um, alright, sir..." the bartender said. He can sense that the customer, Alec, is having some personal problems. "I'll just get your order."

   "You really still love Funneh, huh?"Aly asked.
   "Yeah..." Alec looks at hissister while thinking of Funneh. "I feel like it just got stronger."
   "Why don't you directlyapproach her this time?" Aly advised. She knows that her brother attempted tosee Funneh. But he wasn't able to succeed, since the security thinks that Alecis just a fan of hers.
   "The more I wouldn't get thechance to see her in person," Alec said as he starts playing with his fingers.Lost in his deep thoughts.
   "You won't lose anything," Alyinsisted. Looking at Alec with an apologetic smile. "Just give it a try!"
   Alec starts to have second thoughts... Should he give it a try again?
