Last Spring Break

As Matt exited the pool, Nora sat on one of the lounge chairs. "What are u reading?" Matt asked averting her attention from the book to him.

"This book is called The Similars, it's a sci-fi book. It's really good," She said as Matt dragged a lounge chair and placed it next to hers. He sat down and inched closer to Nora, she did the same.

"I'll tell u more about it later when I read about it more," Nora said as she reopened her book and started reading.  Nora laid her head on Matt's shoulder and he laid his head on top of hers. They sat together, music in the background as Matt closed his eyes and cuddled more onto her side. 

"You guys are so boring!" Sofia said from the pool. They both look up and laugh at the scene. Geral and Sofia were on top of Chris and Ethan's shoulders and Nic was in the middle like a referee.

"You guys are gonna get hurt," Nora quickly said as Geral rolled her eyes.

"Come and play with us!" Ethan said as he dropped Geral, as she made a gurgling sound. He quickly turned around and pulled her out laughing. 

"Asshole! Could have told me that you were dropping me down!" Geral said as Ethan and Chris started laughing.

Chris let Sofia down gently as Nora and Matt look at each other.

"Let's join them," Nora said as Matt stood up.

Nora quickly put all her stuff back into her tote bag as Matt jumped into the pool. She tied her hair back and stood at the edge of the pool. "Jump, I'll catch you," Matt said as Chris and Nic exchanged looks.

"Would I hurt you if did?" She smiled as he shook his head. "Oh just do it Eleanor," Geral said as Nora looked at her irritated.

"Oh shut up, Geraldine," Nora quickly said as Geral laughed, loving to see her sister irritated.

Nora looked at Matt and signaled for him to move backward, not wanting to hurt him. She jumped once he moved back.

She laughed once she reached the top. Her hair had fallen off her bun, but she let it be. Matt took that as an opportunity to quickly place it behind her ears. They look at each other smiling as Nic breaks their silence.

"When you guys stop making googly eyes at each other, we are gonna play Marco Polo, if you wanna join," Nic said as they both nodded, wanting to play.

"Chris your it," Geral smiled as Chris rolled his eyes. "I dont want to be it," Chris said as Geral shrugged. "Why do I have to be it? Nic?" Chris turned to his brother as Nic looked between Geral and Chris.

"Chris your it," Nic said as Geral smiled. 




"Marco!" Chris screamed as he heard a stream of 'Polo' and he tried to follow the nearest one, it turned out to be Nora. She quickly swam away and pushed Matt to be closer to Chris. In the process Nora ended up running to the pool wall, causing her to scrap her knees, she didn't even notice and she kept playing.

"Is this Matt?!" Chris screamed as he opened his eyes and saw an annoyed Matt. "Yes!"

"This is unfair!" Matt said as he turned to Nora. "I was trying to help you get away from Chris and you pushed me in!" He added causing Nora to laugh.

"I saw all of that betrayal happen!" Sofia said as he raised her hand for Nora to high-five. "I think it's fair! Nora was just playing the game," Chris defended as Nora nodded. 

"Yeah listen to Chris!" Ethan screamed as Nora rolled her eyes. "Yeah you are it, Matt," Nora said as she crossed her arms across her chest, Matt couldn't help but smile. Her cheeks were red from being out in the sun for too long, and her hair was all messed up but somehow looked pretty. 

"Whatever," Matt mumbled as he looked away, trying to hide his blush, from just staring at his best friend.

Nora sat on her Airbnb bed as she had almost finished the book, Matt walked in at smiled at her. "Is the book any good?"  Matt said as he sat down next to her.

"So so so good! I hope they make a movie of it, you can love it too," She smiled as she closed the book. He smiled and said "I love it already," Matt smiled at her and she went back to reading. 

They sat in silence, Matt on his phone and Nora reading her book. Nora read as the main character mourned her best friend. She closed her book and looked at Matt.

"What would you do if I died?" Nora asked as Matt turned to her, a little concerned. "I would go to your funeral," Matt said as Nora rolled her eyes. "You wouldn't mourn me?" She laughed as he nodded. 

"Of course, I would," Matt said as Nora laid her head on his shoulder. 

"I don't think I would ever recover if you would die,"  Matt replied as he took her hand into his. "I don't know what I would do without you," Matt sighed as she blushed, but Matt didn't get to see.

"Same here," She mumbled as he smiled and kissed the top of her head.

Present Day

Matt thought about the conversations they had last spring break, he got shivers as he turned into the hospital.

"Here," Matt said as if the others couldn't see the big building. 

They all rushed out of the car and the front door nurses let them go through, from knowing Geral and Ethan.

Sofia grabbed Chris' hand as the elevator binged and they walked in, no one was talking. From what Ethan had told them, his mom had called him and told him to rush to the hospital, no other context. 

"I hope she is okay," Geral whispered as Matt quickly pulled her in for a hug, the girl was so close to sobbing, but she was just like her sister, hated when people saw her cry.

"She is going to be fine," Chris said as he placed his hand on her shoulder. The elevator doors open and the teens rush out. Ethan leads the group but once Geral sees her mom and dad as she runs to them.

Gianna, Nora's mom, hugs her youngest kids. "Hey Dad," Ethan said as he nodded, to which his father did the same. 

"How is she?" Ethan quickly asked as he noticed his mom, checking the other teens. "Why are they here?" Gianna said but she mainly looked at Matt. Matt's eyes watered, as Sofia grabbed his hand and squeezed. 

Matt was there for Sofia, so she was going to be there for him, always.

"Mom!" Geral voiced as her mother signaled for her to go into Nora's room. Geral and Ethan looked at their friends as if asking if it was okay if they could go in without them.

"Go ahead," Nic mumbled smiling at Geral, she nodded before looking at her twin. They both walked in. 

"Thank you, guys, for bringing my kids here, but this is a family issue... You guys can go now," Gianna said as Matt sighed. 

"Nora is my best friend," Matt mumbled as Nora's mom sighed. 
"I should see her," Matt said louder this time. Gianna looked at her husband, to which he looked at Matt.

"You should have kept her safe." Her dad said as Matt looked down. "Our daughter has spent almost 2 weeks at a hospital because you didn't look both ways." He added as Matt let go of Sofia's hand to wipe his tears. 

"The light was green? He did nothing wrong," Nic said defending his brother. "Our decision as her parents is that you will no longer be involved with Nora," Gianna said as Chris widened his eyes looking at Matt. "That included all of you guys,"

"Mrs. Richards. You don't understand. I would never mean to hurt her. I love her. so so much," Matt ranted, he didn't know what to say to help the situation.

Just as Gianna opened her mouth to talk, Geral walked out of the room.
"Guys, come in!" Geral said in a hurried voice, oblivious to what was happening outside of the room.

"Geraldine," Her mom gave her a look as Geral shrugged. "Come in you guys," Geral opened the door wider as the teens quickly walk in.

"Geraldine Camille!"

"Mom, I love you and everything but what you are doing is stupid. Nora would be mad if she found out about how you have been treating Matt," Geral said as she let the teens walk in, and she walked out to face her parents.

"I am scared for my daughter's safety," Gianna mumbled as tears fell down her eyes. "So is Matt," Geral mumbled as her father walked away, not wanting to be a part of this conversation. 

"We are all convinced that Matt and Nora are soulmates. He is going to always be here, so suck it up," Geral said as she wiped her mom's tears. 

"now come in with us,"
