It was Elodie's free period, and she waiting outside the library for Daniel to show up, when she felt a hand on her shoulder. "Boo!" It shouted, causing Elodie to jump out of her skin. She turned around, and there Daniel was, grinning like a maniac. "Arsehole." She smiled.
"Shall we head in, then?" He asked, holding the library door open for her as she nodded, and walked through the library doors, sitting at an empty seat. The library was relatively quiet, a few 7th years littered around and a couple kids skipping a lesson.
"So, charms?" Elodie reached into her bag for her textbook, and dropped it onto the table. Just as she started flicking through the pages, Daniel closed the book. She looked at him in confusion. "We don't have to start right away, we have an hour. How was your summer?" He spoke.
Gods, she hated when James was right. Though maybe he wasn't? Maybe he was just being friendly?
"It was okay, I didn't do much other than go to Diagon Alley." She said, trying again to open the tectbook, with no success.
"My parents take me every year to get supplies- I didn't go this year though, I had everything I needed pretty much. How often do you go? Next time, we could go together." He said, waving his arms around as he made small talk.
"I only went this year because me and my boyfriend had plans to, I normally get my books ordered." Elodie dropped subtle hints, though they were flying right over Daniel's head or he just outright ignored them.
"Right, James. I remember you two getting together not long ago. So, you're serious?" No, she's Elodie. She bit on her tongue, feeling slightly infuriated and just wanted to help him study so she can swallow her pride and tell James he was right.
"Yeah, we're serious. I couldn't ask for anyone better." She spoke, practically spelling out for him.
"You could do way better than Potter." Daniel's hand made its way onto her forearm, and it took everything in her to not bite it off. "He's very.. egocentric. Plus, he was head over heels in love with Lily just a year ago, how do you know he's not trying to get back at her with you?"
Because we tried that and we both fell in love with each other, you baffoon!
"He's not egocentric, he's my boyfriend: and if you've only come here to be a dick about him I'm leaving." She snatched her textbook off of the table, grabbed her bag and got up. Before she could storm out of the library, his hand gripped her wrist tightly enough for her to wince.
"I've seen the way you looked at me, Elodie." He cockily announced. "James wouldn't know." His free hand rested on her cheek, and she had finally had enough of Daniel Reedsworth trying to get in her pants. She dropped her textbook and slapped him, the way she told James he would.
"I haven't been looking at you, you aren't worth looking at you small dicked wanker." She snarled, and that mustve really set him off as he yanked her closer to him. "Get the hell off me!" Elodie tried to pry her wrist free, but to no avail as he left a bruising grip.
If you think with your dick, I'll just break it. She thought, rising her knee into his crotch, and he immediately curled over and let go. She picked up her textbook, and turned to walk away. "Yeah whatever, slut - you were practically throwing yourself at me!" He shouted, immediately being shushed by the librarian.
Elodie didn't stay to hear to lecture he got, as she ran to whatever secluded spot she could. Only then did she let the tears fall. She was stupid, naïve to think Daniel Reedsworth wasn't just trying to study with her. She hugged her knees, examining the wrist he had gripped tight enough for it to ache even now.
He had left a mark, and it wasn't a very subtle one. Her wrist was a mix of red, throbbing slightly and she could still feel his clammy grip on her. She wished she had done more than damage his balls, maybe she should've ripped into him a bit more, beat him with the textbook.
A knock on the broom closet alerted her, and her first thought was it being Reedsworth - so she covered her mouth and stayed as quiet as she could. "Els? It's me, love." James. Oh, James. She sighed in relief and opened the door. He took one look at her, and had a pretty good guess of what happened. "Oh, baby.."
"How did you know I was here?" She spoke through quiet sobs. He wiped a tear that was falling down her cheek. "Don't worry about it, okay?"
She threw herself into his arms, and cried. She's not sure how long for, but James stayed there with her until she was ready to discuss whatever had happened in that library. He stroked the back of her hair, whispering words of endearment into her ear as her breath steadied. "You're okay, love. You're okay."
"You were right, I hate when you're right." James felt his heart drop. His assumptions were right, Daniel had hurt her. And when he gets his hands on the bastard he's going to be sitting detentions for the rest of his life.
"I know, darling. I'm sorry. Did he hurt you?" Elodie hesitantly nodded, and she felt James' breath hitch. "Show me, it's okay..." She rolled up her sleeve, and James looks to see her purple wrist. He was careful and delicate when he held her hand up, fighting everything within him telling him to go and use an Unforgivable on him.
Maybe he'd Imperio Daniel to throw himself off of the staircase, but why deny James the satisfaction of being the one to directly cause the pain he had caused Elodie? A Crucio or two, then finish him off with the killing curse.
"I'm going to murder him." James spoke, concerningly calm for a man who felt nothing but anger at the time. "I'm gonna stick his wand through his eye."
"I kneed him in the balls, if that's any help to you." She smiled sadly, and James laughed. "Good, I'll castrate him and feed him his own dick, since he loves the thing so much." Elodie laughed, and wiped his eyes. "After you're okay, though. I'm not leaving you alone again, alright? There's gotta be a spell to conjoin us."
"I'm okay, I think. I'm just a little shaken up." James sighed, and pulled her closer to him, feeling her heartbeat against his chest. "I swear, no one will hurt you again, okay? We won't let it happen. I mean, if you think I'm scary you should see Sirius mad."
"I don't think I want to see Sirius mad, he's scary enough as it is."
"Oh, he's a sweetheart unless you piss him off." Sirius Black and sweetheart have never been used in the same sentence before, and Elodie thought it'd never happen again. "Seriously, say the word and I can get a little gang and we'll jump him."
"No, don't that - you'll get expelled. Maybe you can beat on him a little, though." James laughed, but took her permission 100% seriously.
Daniel Reedsworth came to dinner that day sporting a cut lip, two black eyes and a limp. James just grinned at Elodie, who had, in that moment, realised there was no one else for her than James Fleamont Potter.
