Reverse Fate

Chapter 2

The shocked silence filled the room after Bo Ri's words, both Ma Wang and Seon Mi lost for words after that statement. No one moved for a moment while their brains processed what had just been said.

"What do you mean, he's Samjang?" Seon Mi asked loudly, her eyes wide, whishing she had her umbrella with her, just to grip in comfort if nothing else, "I'm Samjang,"

"No, you were Samjang. You haven't been since the moment your mission has ended," Bo Ri said, rubbing his forehead. The situation was weird and unexpected and he could just feel his stress levels increase. His higher-ups would soon be after him, and he needed to find out why this was happening.

"But... how can that nutcase is Samjang right now? And human?" Ma Wang asked, trying to keep calm. He moved closer to Bo Ri, trying to keep control over himself even though the situation rattled him. How come a being so strong as Oh Gong could be so easily stripped of his powers?

There had been a time he would have rejoiced in knowing that the monkey became a mortal, weak and helpless, but now, now they have been through too much, and how much it pained Ma Wang to admit it, he really felt as if they were friends now.

"We're not sure," Bo Ri answered, agitated and hating to be kept out of a loop, "Oh Gong begged the fates to reverse your faith, Seon Mi, he begged them that you could live. It seemed that they listened, and they took your humanity and made him human, while they took his power and changed you into one of us,"

"I...that's why I could run so fast," Seon Mi said, still looking confused and thoughtful, barely able to grasp the situation. Ma Wang looked at Bo Ri with a frown on his face, going over his explanation, tilting his head when he found the flaws in it.

"But how come Oh Gong is Samjang then?" Ma Wang asked, and Bo Ri turned to him, looking slightly pained. He had hoped that no one would have caught on the details, but Ma Wang was smarter then a lot of people gave him credit for.

"What?" Seon Mi asked, but Ma Wang had no attention for her right now. With narrowed eyes he looked at Bo Ri.

"You said that Seon Mi was Samjang until her mission was done. It was done the moment the dragon was defeated, BEFORE Oh Gong begged the heavens to safe Seon Mi. So why is he Samjang?"

Bo Ri stared at him for a moment, his face in a frown, but Ma Wang kept on staring back. At last, the spirit let out a sigh, giving in. He knew how stubborn and tenacious Ma Wang was, and he wouldn't turn away as first.

"Why does Samjang always turn up? Bo Ri said, his voice even, "why does Samjang appear in the world?"

"To safe it," Ma Wang said in a whisper, looking to the side, his eyes widening again with the meaning of that statement. He whipped back to look at Bo Ri, "there is still danger. From what?"

"Don't you think we're not busy with finding out," the man snapped, temporarily losing his cool, but he managed to collect himself quick enough, "I'll inform you if we know more, but it's unlikely we'll find anything soon. The awakening of Samjang is often years before the danger actually appears,"

"If Oh Gong is Samjang, does it mean his blood attracts spirits?" Seon Mi asked loudly, having stayed silent until now, listening to the conversation. Her gaze had wandered over to the puddle of blood on the floor, and she had stared at it, wondering what the scent was that enticed her so much.

It had been pleasant and warm, and she just wanted more of it. Once she realised that she was smelling lotus flowers, fear had gripped her heart, knowing that her blood had always attracted evil spirits. How often Oh Gong hadn't told her to be careful even with the smallest of cuts.

Both supernatural beings looked at her in surprise, not having realised the possibility of Oh Gong being in danger in the hospital, not having taken in account that just the sheer fact of bleeding would attract danger.
