Double checking the address I'd scribbled onto a scrap of paper from the day before, I peeked over at Josh's house as I parked my car across the street and jogged over to the wooden front porch, still in my grease stained work uniform. The thought of changing hadn't crossed my mind since I'd decided last minute to pay Josh a visit during my lunch break. I hadn't notified him ahead of time of my appearance either, which to me was all the better knowing he was going to reject the idea of me meeting him in person.

Despite myself, I felt the sudden itch of nervousness gnawing in the pit of my stomach as I rang the doorbell, "Can't wait to see the look on his face." I mumbled under my breath as the door swung open revealing the last person I wanted to see. "Alex?" He frowned, his familiar green eyes traveling up and down my uniform, landing disapprovingly on my face.

I swallowed back the lump in my throat, "Will." I spoke, his name sounding more like a curse from my mouth. "Josh is your brother?" I questioned, peering behind him into the unfamiliar living room, yearning to catch a glimpse of a family photo.

Will's grip on the doorknob tightened as he placed himself between my view of the house and the threshold. "Yeah, I decided to move in back home after we broke it off." His voice radiated impatience as he rested a hand against the doorframe. "Josh isn't even home."

"Oh." I sighed, feeling my face flush as I took a step back. "I'll just come at a different time then." My voice wavered, I wanted to bolt. The sight of my ex left me dizzy with anxiety.

"Or maybe not at all." Will grunted, shutting the door in my face before I could utter another word. I could feel tears stinging in the bridge of my nose as I crossed the street and slammed the door of my car, never wanting to go back to that house again, or speak with Josh.
