Jelly Side Up!

Chapter 11

Brer Fox and Burt were still waiting by the Slippin' Falls.

"So. I can't wait to meet Adele" said Burt.

"Me either" said Brer Fox. 

Just then, a hand wove at Burt from behind the door of Brer Bear's cave.

"Hello, Burt! It is I, Adele!" said a high pitched voice with an English accent.

"Holy impersonation, Brer Fox. Adele sounds a lot different than I thought" said Burt.

"She sounds exactly how I thought" said Brer Fox uncomfortably.

"Adele, come on out and say hi, why don't you?" said Burt.

"I can't. I have a cold and I'm a bit contagious" said the voice.

"I wish you could meet my friend Chad Stuart. I wonder where he is" said Burt slyly.

"Oh, he's probably chasing the birds. Or doing some other manly pursuit" said the voice.

"Oh brother" Brer Fox cringed.

"Ya know, it's funny. Cause you kinda sound like him" said Burt.

"Oh, that's impossible. He's a handsome young English boy. Whilst I am a lovely German frauline" said the voice.

"Ugh! I can't take it anymo'! De jig is up!" Brer Fox groaned.

Chad came out from behind the door and said "What gave me away?"

"Everything" said Brer Fox.

"Guys, it's one thing to try and fool me with fake letters. But how could you possibly think I'd fill the reservoir with jelly?" said Burt.

"I dunno, maybe because you wrote you was gonna fill de reservoir wit jelly" said Brer Fox.

"And you know Cesar Romero's jelly reservoir recipe" said Chad. 

"Look. I'm sorry for tricking you guys, but you started it" said Burt.

"We was just tryna cheer ya up cuz you never get no mail" said Brer Fox.

"Chad hasn't gotten any mail since he came to Splash Mountain" said Burt.

"But I'm English and famous. So... my fans at home can't reach me" said Chad getting sad at the last part.

Then he took a breath and said "But we were trying to make you feel better, Burt."

"And you succeeded. Messing with you guys was the highlight of my day" said Burt.

"Well, tanks fo' sayin' dat, Brer Burt. But at what point was you onto us?" said Brer Fox.

"From the second I saw Chad's dainty handwriting" said Burt.

"Thanks a lot, Burt" said Chad with embarrassment.
