Grabbing my bottle in a haste from him, I run towards my hostel, not wanting to break down in front of him. As I enter my friend's room, I distract myself only to get disturbed by the continuous chiming of the phone.
"Are you okay?" she asks, her eyes fixed on the screen. Days of overthinking, mixed signals, and confusion flash in my mind as I try not to burst into tears. I unlock my phone and stare at the bland "Are you okay?" he had texted a few minutes back. Ignoring him, I concentrate on the presentation slide as I rant to my friend sitting beside me.
"Go to your place," she says. "End it once and for all."
"End Point," I see his text, making up my mind.
As I walk towards Temple Run, my eyes fall on a tall dude with curly wet hair and headphones around his neck.
Hot, I think to myself and turn away, not wanting to cheat on my current one.
Out of the corner of my eye, I feel the tall dude staring at me and walking in my direction. Turning, I realize it was none other than the dude I had decided not to cheat on.
As we sit on the bench, he starts a light conversation that I do not quite remember, but what did stand out was his question, "Will you be my girlfriend?"
Not wanting to rush him or be the rebound, my initial reaction came out to be, "Are you sure?" Like he was playing a filthy prank on me.
"We have been doing everything people in relationships do- we call each other boyfriend and girlfriend, we hold hands, we both like each other, we make out, we cuddle, and we love spending time with one another. And I don't think I can handle any more breakdowns of yours. I was going to ask you on your birthday, but will you be my girlfriend?"
I process his words and ask again, "Are you sure? No pressure man, I don't want my breakdown to pressure you."
"I am sure. And if you think some girl likes me- let me know. I will make out with you in front of her."
I smile and look at him, "You already know my answer man."
"And that is?"
"Yes," I sigh. "I will be your girlfriend."
As we stand near the cycle stand, he kisses me softly. "It would have been weird if I asked you out but did not kiss you. And your boobs are beautiful, nothing to be embarrassed about." He lightly kisses my forehead and holds my hand as we walk toward my hostel.
A simple visit to Canara Mall, a simple kiss on the cheek, a simple kiss behind the hostel, and a massive breakdown- these started the story of us.
