Everyone had just entered Hogwarts and was walking up the grand staircase.

Hogwarts was a huge place, there was millions of staircases.

Hagrid raised his gigantic fist and knocked three times on the castle door.
The door swung open at once. A tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there. She had a very stern face.
"She looks mean." Y/n said to Hermione quietly.
Hermione nodded.

'The firs'-years, Professor McGonagall,' said Hagrid.
'Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here.'

She pulled the door wide open. The Entrance Hall was humongous. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches, the ceiling was too high to make out, and a magnificent marble staircase facing them led to the upper floors.
They followed Professor McGonagall across the flagged stone floor. She showed the first-years into a small empty chamber off the hall. They crowded in, standing rather closer together than they would usually have done.

'Welcome to Hogwarts,' Mcgonagall said.

'The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be like your family here. You will have classes with your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room.

'The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn you house points, while any rule-breaking will lose you house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup. I hope each of you will be a credit to the house which becomes yours.

'The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting.'

'I shall return when we are ready for you,' said Professor McGonagall. 'Please wait quietly.'

After minutes, Professor Mcgonagall had returned.

'Now, form a line,' Professor McGonagall told the first-years, 'and follow me.'

They walked out of the chamber, back across the hall and through a pair of double doors into the Great Hall.
It was beautiful, it was lit by thousands and thousands of candles which were floating in mid-air over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting. The tables were laid with glittering golden plates and goblets. At the top of the Hall was another long table where the teachers were sitting.

Professor McGonagall led the first-years up to the stand, so that they came to a halt in a line facing the other students, with the teachers behind them. The hundreds of faces staring at them made y/n nervous. Dotted here and there among the students, the ghosts shone misty silver. Mainly to avoid all the staring eyes, Y/n looked upwards and saw a velvety black ceiling dotted with stars.

"That's not really the sky. It's bewitched to look like it, I read about it in 𝘏𝘰𝘨𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴: 𝘈 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺.'

"I remember reading something like that too." Y/n said.

"When I call your name, you will come up, sit on the stool, and I shall place the Sorting Hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses." Professor Mcgonagall said.

"Hannah Abbott"

The Sorting Hat sorted her into Hufflepuff.

"Susan Bones"

The Sorting Hat sorted her into Hufflepuff as well.

"Hermione Granger"

Hermione was nervous, Y/n could tell.

"Mmh, Gryffindor!"

She smiled and ran up to the Gryffindor table and sat down.

"Ronald Weasley"

Ron looked nervous and Y/n was nervous for him too. What if he wasn't in the same house as his brothers? What if he was a Slytherin and everyone hated him?

The hat hit his head and startled him and Mcgonagall a little.

"Another Weasley, I know just what to do with you!" The Sorting Hat spoke.

"Gryffindor!" Ron became relaxed and sat down at the Gryffindor Table.

"Harry Potter"

Dumbledore sat up straight. Everyone became quiet again.

Harry looked back at the Gryffindor Table where all his friends were.

He went and sat on the small brown stool.

"Mmh Difficult, very difficult." The Sorting Hat spoke. "Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh yes. And a thirst to prove yourself. But where to put you?"

"Not Slytherin." Harry said quietly. "Not Slytherin."

"Not Slytherin, eh? Are you sure? You could be great, you know. It's all here in your head. And Slytherin will help you on the way to greatness, there's no doubt about that. No?"

"Anything but Slytherin, Anything but Slytherin." Harry said again.

"Well if you're sure, better be... Gryffindor!"

Harry smiled brightly, and everyone clapped.

"Y/N Hills"

Dumbledore also stood up for this.

She looked back and saw her friends, and her brother standing up straight.

"Mmh, another difficult one. Plenty of brains, very wise, but loyalty and courage. You have the brains of a Ravenclaw. The courage of a Gryffindor. The Loyalty of a Hufflepuff and the ambition of a Slytherin." The Sorting Hat said.

"What are you looking forward to at Hogwarts?"

"The courses." Y/n said.

"Ah, yes and what class are you most excited for?"

"Charms".

"Okay, let it be.. Ravenclaw!"

Everyone clapped even Dumbledore. Professor Flitwick clapped the most.

Y/n felt happy but disappointed at the same time. All of her friends were in Gryffindor and she was singled out because she was a Ravenclaw.

Y/n walked to her table and watched the others get sorted.

"Cho Chang"

The girl named Cho walked up and sat on the stool.

"Mmh, Ravenclaw!"

She ran to the table and sat next to Y/n.

"Hi, i'm Cho."

"Hello, i'm Y/n"

"That's a lovely name." Cho said

"Thank you, yours is too." Y/n said with a smile.

"Do you maybe um- want to- be friends?" Cho said awkwardly.

"Oh yes! Of course." Y/n said happily.

"Ok, great!"

While they were talking another girl got sorted.

"Luna Lovegood"

"Ravenclaw!"

The girl jumped up happily and sat across from me and Cho.

"Hello, i'm Luna. Who are you guys?"

"Hi, i'm Y/n."

"And i'm Cho"

"Lovely names. Would you both like to be friends?" Luna said softly.

"We would love to" Cho said with a soft smile.

I smiled back.

"Yes, we would."

After the Sorting Ceremony, the feast began. Me, Cho, and Luna had talked throughout the whole thing.

Y/n had found her new best friends, she could tell they will be great friends to her.
