Echoes of silence

Chapter 4

I woke up at 7:30 and changed into my sports suit, then went to the park for my morning walk. Almost 50 minutes later I returned to my home and took a shower.

Then I took out my clothes and wore my black suit with black trousers. Then I choose a watch to wear that I don't usually wear and then rush outside before calling the driver to take the car outside from the garage.

I drove to my office but bought a Subway sandwich on my way to eat it. Soon, I reached my office and went through the presentation that I made yesterday. I made some corrections to make the presentation look perfect.

Soon, when it was time for the meeting. I went to the meeting room where everyone was waiting for me and did the presentation. The meeting went smoothly thus fixing the deal.

I talked with the members of the meeting about the deal that was just fixed. A while later, I bid them farewell and since I was outside the office building, I decided to buy a coffee from the cafe nearby to survive the next meeting that was an hour later.

I went inside the cafe and told the lady my order. I took out my wallet to pay for the coffee. Instead, came outside the paper that Lily gave me yesterday recalling the scenes in my head.

I was reminded of the fact that Lily was upset. I looked at the time of the PTM and then looked at the present time. I realized that there was still some time before my meeting start. I don't know what got into me but I quickly took money out of my wallet and paid the lady. I took my coffee and rushed outside

I took my car keys that were in my pocket, put my coffee in the center cup holder, and drove as fast as I could.

A while later, I reached the school and entered the school. I asked a man where the PTM of grade 2 is being held and he pointed towards the stairs.
I rushed towards the stairs and made my way up.

Almost every teacher was preparing to leave when I came inside the classroom. Everyone turned to look at me. Someone asked me who I am to which I replied by telling my name and that I am the uncle of Lily Brown.

As soon as I said that, I heard a lady say, "Oh, I am her class teacher." I look towards her which led to her looking down. She had short wavy, black hair that stopped at her shoulders. Her skin was pale with some visible freckles and acne.

She signaled me to sit in the chair to which I stared her up and down. Seconds later, I took the seat that she offered me. Then she started telling me about Lily, showing her paintings,activities and whatsoever with her calming and soft voice.

I kept looking at the time, reminded of my meeting which was 20 minutes later. I kept looking at my watch after every few minutes which made the teacher sitting in front of me irritated.

"Well Sir, you may leave now as it's clearly written on your face that you are not quite interested in your niece's life," She said making me shocked. I looked at her for a few seconds to process what she just said while my eyes narrowed.

"Well, thank god because I would have lost the will to live if I had heard your voice even for a minute more," I replied in response to her with clear irritation in my voice. I obviously lied, her voice was very pretty. Nevermind.

I stared into her brown eyes with fury before standing up from the chair and leaving the classroom. I exited the school and entered my car. I drove towards my office in annoyance while regretting going to the PTM.

A while later, I reached my office and thankfully I wasn't late. The meeting went smoothly and then I went home, and had dinner with Lily while informing her about the awful PTM but she refused to acknowledge anything against her teacher.
