"What just happened today?" I asked when my brother and his wife didn't show for the reception.
"He married his child's mother, sister. For heaven's sake, weren't you paying attention, Vika?"
"Hey! What the dig, Karo. It's just she's basically still a stranger to us."
Mama laughed. "Vika, your grandmother predicted this outcome and all has gone as should, since Dimka didn't get his own arse back to Rose quick enough. I did put you in with her and Giana for a reason."
"What? So I can look after my niece while my brother and her mother get it on all night?" God that's weird, having a niece from Dimitri because he'd slept with his now wife while she'd been seventeen.
That was how I ended up spending ten days with Giana Belikova when she wasn't with Rose and Dimka. Both Rose and her daughter had made a dramatic entrance into our lives. But they'd saved Dimka from marrying someone Mama and my sisters and I knew he didn't love. But he loved them so much I couldn't begin to comprehend why he'd even ever taken a single step away from her.
