With careful steps tracing the wooden flooring, Chan found himself standing before Soojin's door yet again. His palms were sweaty and his mind was all over the place, and he breathed heavily before the closed door. He rubbed his palms together, and then knocked on the door.
Moments later, it opened, and Soojin stared at him.
"I..." he began, "I talked to Jinyoung about it. You know, to ask him what to do next."
"What did he say?" she questioned.
"We can keep the baby," Chan lied, "But it remains a secret. The public does not get to know about it."
"I understand..." she hung her head, and he asked, "Have you eaten anything yet?"
"Chan, why are you pretending to care?" Soojin remarked, the tone almost begging-like. She was begging him to tell her why he suddenly cared; she was begging him to tell her why he decided to keep the baby; she was begging him to tell her why she was still weak for him -- the way that, after everything that happened between them, she still cared for him and his opinion.
"It's my child, too," Chan reasoned, "You're pregnant and-"
"She's pregnant?!"
The two looked to the left to see Changbin gaping at them. Blood ran cold in Soojin and Chan's veins; how much did he hear?
"How... How long have you been here?" Chan questioned, terrified out of his wits.
"I literally just came and heard that Soojin's pregnant," Changbin spoke, "Why didn't you guys tell us?!"
"I-"
"We just found out last night," Soojin grinned at Changbin, finally walking out of her own room and stepping into the hallway, "It's a surprise for us, too."
"Oh, my god!" Changbin exclaimed, "I'm so happy for you! Both of you!"
"Yes!" Soojin smiled, seemingly real but false in its nature, "I... Could you please get me some water? I ran out of water in my room."
"Of course!" Changbin nodded, walking out of the hallway and down to the kitchen.
Chan turned to Soojin, gazing at her, eyes begging to understand how she successfully attempted to deceive Changbin with the happiest face and the brightest eyes. How was she able to do that? Weren't idols the only ones who knew the trick to deceive the public into believing that everything was alright?
She looked at him, and as if she understood the perplexed look in his eyes, she spoke, "It's a part of my job; making it look like I enjoy things that I absolutely hate doing."
She walked into her room, the door still open, and Chan watched the empty hallway with a puzzled mind, replaying her words in a loop inside his head. And then, he realized: they weren't so different from each other.
He still did not know why she chose to disrupt his peaceful life, or why she decided to go along with Ae Ra's conditions that day with Jinyoung, or why she chose to keep the baby. All he had known was that she had been adamant against his peace of mind, pretending as if she cared for him. But now, being ready to ruin her body to bear the kid of a man who had destroyed her life, it seemed as if she had certain reasons -- reasons he may never understand.
He needed to respect her decisions, too. He needed to embrace the child she was going to give birth to. But most of all, he needed to truly like her presence.
Even though every time he saw her, he was reminded of his mistake that night, he so desperately needed to tolerate those thoughts and enjoy her company. She couldn't be that much of a nuisance, right?
Would she like his presence, too?
