I don't yearn for shallow lust,
But for a taste of your sweet trust,
Your smile, a beam of sunshine bright,
Brings warmth to my soul with its light.

Alas, you are my friend, it's true,
And I can't reveal my heart to you,
For fear of losing what we've built,
Of friendship, laughter, love and guilt.

At night, I dream of holding your face,
And losing myself in your embrace,
Of feeling your heart beating true,
As my soul awakens, all anew.

But reality sets in at dawn,
And I'm left to carry on,
Knowing deep down in my heart,
That we can't take this passion's part.

So I'll cherish the moments we share,
The laughs, the smiles, the love and care,
And though you'll never feel the same way,
I'll cherish our friendship, come what may.
