Izuku
Todoroki and I stood in the insurance building, just looking at each other silently. It would have been awkward if not for the immense meaning of this moment.
"We thought we'd never see you again." Todoroki said quietly, resting his hand on my shoulder. "We...we missed you."
I pull Todoroki into a hug and I feel pressure build up behind my eyes. "I missed you guys too. But...I'm...it was safe here. Im-we're safe here." I swallow and continue holding on to Todoroki and he holds on just as tight.
If I was unaware of what our friendship meant before I was sure of it now. I'd never really had a friend quite like Todoroki. He wasn't clingy like most best friends were. He was just a silent support. And I think that was what I needed most.
I didn't need a best friend that told me they'd take a bullet for me. I needed a best friend who would do it without saying a word. I didn't need someone egging me on or hyping me up constantly. I just needed someone who would be by my side in my darkest days and hardest battles.
Todoroki was just that.
He was my best friend.
"You're my best friend, Izuku. I can't lose you." Todoroki's voice was very soft spoken, I almost thought I imagined him saying that if it wasn't for the tight squeeze he gave me as he said it. Just emphasizing his care for me.
He pulled back and looked me in the eyes.
"If our worlds are colliding, we need to be the heroes we aspire to be. We need to save this world. And maybe we can get help saving ours."
I nod. "Marinette has multiple kwamis...we can find many people to help-"
"Can I ask you a question?"
I nod.
"How...you and Marinette...you...you seem...she seemed devastated fighting you. And...that...rage you have when you fight villains you...that passion...you didn't have that when you fought Marinette. Izuku, usually you go all in but it seemed like you hesitated when you were fighting her. Is she...are you guys..."
I saw where Todoroki's train of thought was going. And to be honest I felt my stomach flip a little.
"No...its not like that...I...at least I don't think it is like that. I obviously have compassion for her..." I scratch my head and Todoroki smiles.
"You look at her differently than you used to look at Uraraka." He brushes his hair out of his face. I realized his haircut had changed in this universe. And his burn had a softer look to it. It was almost not noticeable. His eyes still stayed the cool gray and blue that they had always been. "I guess things happen. People realize that maybe they'd be better as friends than lovers."
Todoroki wipes off a bit of dirt from his hand. I swallow and I venture in to asking him what exactly he meant.
"You don't have that same light in your eyes. When you and Uraraka first started talking you guys were like lovesick puppies. She could barely hold a conversation without stuttering or you turning some insane shade of red. Now...you guys are friendly. And that fluttery awareness is gone. Which makes sense...
In different stages of our maturity our values change. What we thought we wanted changes. What we value tends to morph into something we never thought we'd hold close to our hearts."
I ruminate on his words for a minute before I speak.
"So you think I fell out of love with Uraraka."
Todoroki cocks his head and then shakes it.
