Camille and Ahmad were in the bathroom together trying on the wigs they bought at Party City earlier that day. It was the middle of June 2022 and they were finally free from the never ending, mundane, stressful chains of high school. Camille and Ahmad have been best friends for 12 years; they were the definition of childhood best friends. And this one was strictly platonic, always has been and always will be. They were even voted 'Two peas in a pod' for their yearbook. If anything, they were more like siblings than they were friends.
Camille's cousin, Jenna, was in the bedroom waiting for the friends to finish taking their photos. Jenna was sitting on Camille's bed with a blue wig on her head while staring at herself through her phone camera. Camille and Ahmad walked back to her bedroom, which was right beside the bathroom. "I wanna try the pink wig." Ahmad spoke, closing the door behind him.
"No, it's mine." Camille held onto the wig on her head as she sat down next to Jenna on her bed. Jenna locked her phone and placed it beside her knee to join the conversation, "I'm actually really loving this blue one." Jenna ran her fingers through the artificial blue hair.
"You should wear it when you're filming Scream VI." Ahmad suggested, removing his blonde wig and sitting down on a big beanbag chair that was in a corner of the room across the bed.
"I might just do that." Jenna replied, nodding her head.
"Speaking of," Camille began as she took off the pink wig, "when are you leaving to go film?"
"Friday, actually."
"What? That soon?" Camille incredulously asked.
Jenna nodded her head again as she removed her wig. "Mhm, for the whole summer. Which actually reminds me, I have something I need to tell you." She pointed her index finger at her.
Camille absolutely hates when those words are spoken to her. 'I have something I need to tell you,' is just so ominous. The uncertainty of it all and the fact that the something in question could be about anything scared her. She could never tell if it was good or bad news.
"I actually got you a job as an assistant to the directors, Matt and Tyler, for the summer." Jenna revealed. "Nothing is official-official, so if you don't want to, you don't have to. I just know you hate working in Starbucks and I thought this would be a good opportunity for you to step outside your comfort zone. Plus, we get to spend more time together."
Camille smiled at the news. "Hell yeah I'll be their assistant!" She was so ecstatic over it. Secretly, she's always wanted to be a director. This would be her chance to get some experience on set and she can watch actual directors work. She couldn't be anymore excited over it.
"Aww, that's so cute. Cami, you're a nepotism baby now!" Ahmad remarked. Camille ended up throwing a pillow at him, which he caught.
"Okay, I just want to clarify that this is the only time I'll be getting you a job." Jenna mentioned.
Camille threw her arms over Jenna to give her a hug, "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"Jenna, did you also get me a job too or is that a family thing only kinda situation?" Ahmad sarcastically asked. Camille let go of the hug as Jenna blankly stared at the man.
"Ahmad, I'm actually gonna kill you one of these days." Jenna deadpanned, obviously joking.
"Honestly, I wouldn't mind." He shrugged.
A single chuckle escaped Jenna's lips as she threw a pillow at Ahmad too. This time, though, he didn't catch it and it hit him in the face. Camille started cheering, "Yeah! We finally got him to shut up!"
Soon after, the three of them decided to watch a movie — the classic Disney Channel Original Movie, Let it Shine. Ahmad moved the beanbag chair next to the bed so he could face the TV in Camille's room too. The three of them spent the rest of their night watching and singing along to the movie.
