He was possibly the only person in the world who could tell what she wanted just by looking or in this case — talking — to her. Not even Jenna or her mother knows her like Ahmad does. Was he right about her? Was she subconsciously using Milo? Was she even afraid of relationships? She actually knew the answer to the third question and it was: yes.
In her 17 years of living, she's only ever had two boyfriends. One cheated and the other emotionally manipulated her. So maybe her fear of romantic relationships was justified. She just always got so scared that she'd have to go through the betrayal and heartbreak again, so she just never tried being in a relationship ever again. Why would she when she believed it would only end? But these were all stories for her therapist.
But she actually likes Milo. He's nice to her, he's funny, they have some things in common. He's an all-around great guy. She could never just use somebody nonetheless someone as good as him.
And also, why did no one believe her when she said she was just friends with Jack? Everyone believes her when she says she's just friends with Ahmad, but why not Jack? She meant everything she said when she told Ahmad that Jack meant too much to her to ever like him romantically. If she did like him romantically, she would lose him either way; he doesn't feel the same way so now the friendship is ruined or he does feel the same way, but they inevitably break up if they start dating.
Her thoughts were soon interrupted by the knocking on her bedroom door. She stood up from her bed to go open it and saw Jenna standing on the other side of the door. It was almost 10 pm and Camille couldn't think of many reasons as to why Jenna would come to her room. She could tell her cousin was currently fighting the urge to smile, which scared her even more. "There's someone at the door for you."
Camille quirked her eyebrows at Jenna's ambiguity before slowly making her way past her and to the front door. The door was already opened and once she stood in front of the open door, she saw Milo standing right in front of her. "Hey." She bemusedly greeted.
"Hey." He repeated. "Uh, do you maybe wanna go on a quick walk with me? I kinda have something to tell you."
Camille looked behind her to see Jenna who was smiling at them. She made a motion with her hands to suggest that she should go. "As long as you bring her back in 30 minutes, Milo. We're on a strict bedtime." The smile still present on her face.
Camille looked back at him. "Uh, yeah, let's go. I just have to grab my sweater." She quickly jogged to her room and put on her black zip up hoodie and jogged back to where Milo was. She stepped outside and closed the door behind her.
The two walked all the way to the park that was literally right next to the building. "Um, so what'd you wanna tell me?" Camille asked as they stopped under a streetlight.
Milo cleared his throat. "Okay, so I'm just gonna go through this quick and get it over with." He began.
So many nerves coursed through Camille's veins, she was practically itching to play with rings on her fingers except she removed her rings and left them in her room an hour ago. So she was left to crack her fingers that were already cracked.
"I like you." Milo blurted with a chuckle following. He wasn't being super serious when telling her, but he was serious about his feelings. "A lot. And, uh, you don't have to like me back or anything, but I just wanted to tell you because it's actually been eating me up inside. And, um, it kinda feels good to just let that out because I haven't told anyone about it and it's kinda just been a weight on my shoulders."
Camille stood in front of him silently with her eyes widened, not sure on what to say. He just kept rambling and she didn't know how to stop him. "I like you too." She interrupted the middle of his tangent. It was technically the truth. She did like him.
Milo blankly stared at her. "Really?"
She nodded her head, "Mhm." He didn't say anything else. He didn't really know what to say after that. But it seemed like Camille did the work for him. "Do you... maybe wanna go out with me? On a date? Tomorrow night, maybe?"
Milo swallowed the lump that was in his throat. He didn't know what he was expecting to happen, but it definitely wasn't this. "Uh, yeah."
"Cool." She replied. What the actual fuck. No way Camille asked out a boy she wasn't even a hundred percent sure she liked. She liked him to some extent, but she didn't know if she was willing to go on a date with him. A large part of her felt guilty for it, but there was nothing she could do about it now.
The pair began walking back to the building. Milo was suppressing the smile that was battling to form on his face, but Camille was freaking out. I like Milo, those three words were being repeated in her head like it was a mantra. She likes Milo. This is good. She gets to finally beat the Jack allegations and she gets to go on a date with someone who she probably would've crushed on in high school. Everything is great! Everything is going to be great.
