Whitestripe and Russetfire arrived at the Winding River camp. Everything was quiet. It seemed empty.
"Where is everybody?" Russetfire asked. "Is this where the survivors were?"
"It was," Whitestripe said. "Let's take a look around and see if anybody's still here."
Russetfire searched around the larger dens ahead while Whitestripe checked the slightly smaller ones. Every den was empty. Russetfire and Whitestripe sat by the large fresh-kill pile for a moment, thinking.
Russetfire was silent for a long while. Whitestripe looked up at the sound of rustling coming from outside the camp.
"Russetfire, did you hear that?" Whitestripe asked, staring at the path she'd followed during nighttime. She looked at the young medicine cat when she didn't respond. "Russetfire?"
Russetfire was gone.
"Russetfire?" she called, standing up. "Russetfire!"
She turned around and saw her friend standing in front of the shared Medicine Den, staring at Whitestripe through clouded teal eyes.
"Russetfire?" Whitestripe said, walking forward slowly. Russetfire wasn't moving. She didn't even look like she was breathing.
"Are you okay?" Whitestripe asked, inching closer.
Russetfire frowned and pounced at Whitestripe, her pupils turning to slits. Whitestripe jumped out of the way just before Russetfire reached her.
"What are you doing?!" Whitestripe hissed. Russetfire ran at her, claws unsheathed and tail lashing.
She's our Medicine Cat, I can't attack her! Whitestripe thought. With a sigh, she reluctantly unsheathed her claws and slashed at Russetfire's side as she ran past.
Russetfire let out an angry grunt. She turned on Whitestripe and growled.
"What's wrong with you?" Whitestripe said. She enjoyed fighting, but not when it was a friend. She'd do her best to stall until someone either found them fighting or Russetfire sorted herself out.
Russetfire didn't answer. She merely growled and launched at Whitestripe, pinning her to the dusty ground of the Winding River camp.
Whitestripe kicked at Russetfire's stomach, but the possessed Medicine Cat didn't budge.
Russetfire hissed and Whitestripe stopped moving, her eyes darting around in search of an escape for when she was released by Russetfire.
Russetfire stared at Whitestripe through clouded eyes. After a long moment of her scowling at the other she-cat, Russetfire pushed Whitestripe away and ran off, leaving Whitestripe in the camp, confused.
