I awoke to the sounds of cheering and fighting. My eyes trailed outside the broken window where Junko was outside the school no more. Her presence replaced with mob. Before them all stood a weak looking scientist and that man I had witnessed crying before. He looked strong with somewhat short green hair.
"You've been lied too! Hope's Peak Academy has lied to your faces, stolen your money, and created something inhuman!" The green haired man shouted above the crowd.
The chattering voices clamored over each other, booing, yelling, throwing things in the air. Those must have been parents... Of the counsil.
The man on stage pulled the arm of a scientist, bringing him forward. The chains around his wrists jingled, rubbing against his skin. "What have you done?" The man's grip on the scientist tightened, making him grunt in pain. "Tell them! Tell them what you've done!"
His eyes lowered to the wooden boards of the stage, tears welling up. "We... We used the money the reserve course has provided and..."
"And?"
The mob was silent, all listening carefully to his weak voice.
"And... Created artificial talent."
A survivor then? I thought all the scientists were killed but this one...
"Explain to us. This 'artificial talent' you speak of." The man's eyes dart back to the crowd, a grin on his face as if the exposure of the scientist was somehow pleasing.
Dark clouds threatened to rain once more but nobody seemed to care about the darkness cast above them.
"We... Took an o-ordinary reserve course student..." The scientist gazed over the hundred faces. "And altered his brain to create a man who is perfect at everything. He has no flaws, no weakness, b-but he's not a monster-!"
Lies.
"Silence!" The man raised his hand against the scientist's face with a loud CRACK, making the whole side of his face red. People in the crowd cheered for a mere minute before going quiet again.
"Your program stole from these people and made something that is no longer human. Look what it did to this school, to its students. You still believe it's not a monster!?"
"T-That's wrong!" The scientist's eyes quickly became frantic. "It wasn't him-! We created the perfect human! His intelligence surpasses even mine. He wouldn't be dumb enough to attack the school! Don't you understand?" He looked over the crowd in hopes he was gaining their support. "He's not evil! We created the physical embodiment of hope. Don't you understand? Does... Anyone understand?"
It was somewhat admirable for him to have such hope in a killer like me, but that's wrong. I had. I killed them. I am a monster. I am evil.
The scientist rose his eyes to the sky as the color drained from his face. Nobody answered his pleas.
This would be his end.
"You've lost, old man." The man looked towards a camera held by someone in the crowd, frowning into the lens. "The world has seen the truth now. Do you know what this means?"
He was... Broadcasting it all to the world.
"Destroy it!" Someone called from the crowd.
"We have to kill it!"
"It's going to attack my children!"
"Like it attacked mine!"
The scientist fell to his knees. So they wanted to kill me? Junko sold me out?
"This means the end of despair. No more will the beast torment us!" The man hopped off the stage. "Our hope will reign supreme. Destroy the mask of Junko Enoshima, the ultimate despair!"
The people's cheering rose again, louder than ever. The rain was practically pouring now. With all the chaos, nobody noticed as someone pulled the trigger. The scientist fell, taking his last breath. It's a shame. I had so much I could have asked, but it can't be helped now.
I decided to wait for the mob to descend down the streets in hunting for me before crawling out of the window and hopping to the ground swiftly.
The smell of smoke made the air disgusting to breathe in, and the scent of blood grew ever stronger. I had no problem in ignoring the rain as I moved towards the dead scientist. I examined the body, thinking that perhaps he had something on him to give hints to the project but by a single glance, obviously not. He looked like a wimp, so I could assume he ran when his colleagues were slaughtered. It appeared he couldn't hide for long though.
His eyes wide, it didn't look natural. I reached down and closed them but I couldn't find any will to feel anything for his death. It felt like all my emotions drained from me that moment. The frozen rain barely made my skin tingle as it soaked me to the bone.
"Oh, It's the monster." Someone muttered from behind. I turned my head to a familiar face. I met her long ago, but it wasn't important enough to even remember. Her name was... Mukuro, sister to Junko. Like everyone else, she's tried to kill me before. Her short brown hair glistened wet and stuck to her freckled face. The girl clicked her gun ready and pointed it towards me. "A monster... Hm? Is that what they're calling me now?" With a sigh, I pulled myself back up and closed my eyes. "Perhaps I am."
The silence between us grew dangerous and her hand didn't waver from the gun. "You brought this on yourself. You weren't careful. How else would parents react when they're told their child was slaughtered like paper and left there to rot? I guess you're not perfect after all."
"Is this wise?" I warned, taking a step forward. I could see Mukuro's eyes wavered but it vanished quickly. "You failed Junko too today. This isn't personal... To an extent."
With a clap, the bullet was charging for me. It was too easy to slip to the side before it even came close. But i'm not fond... Of people trying to kill me. It's annoying.
Before she could reload, I was moving in and threw my fist at her. Of course she wasn't able to dodge the hit, but I didn't intend to kill her. The sister flew back and hit the ground, although she still lived. For now... It was time to meet up with Junko for hopefully, the last time.
I rose my gaze to the roof of Hope's Peak, where I could see her small figure watching me from above. Even from down here, I could see her menacing grin.
So this... Would be it, right? This whole time, I was wrapped around her finger but i'll beat her at her own game. I plan... To join the rest in her despicable killing trip.
This is hardly the end.
