Vanitas felt your body quiver, your hands digging into his shoulder as he let out a whimper of pain. He could feel your heart slam against the walls of your chest, his ears picking up the sound of cries as his shoulders became soaked.
He slowly brought his gloved hands to touch your cheek, pulling away from you softly as he brought his face closer to you.
He pressed his forehead against yours, watching as you let out a quiet breath. "Why are you crying?" He asked once again, staring deep into your brown eyes.
You held up your finger against your cheek, the tear dripped and slide off. You could barely feel anything inside and yet you were crying as if something painful struck you.
"....I don't know." You said, pressing your lips into a thin line. "I guess I...still can't forget the pain that's been torturing me for a very long time."
His expression faded into one of concern, his eyes drawn to you as you wiped away at the droplets, letting it rest on your warm hand.
There were times he would notice your eyes drifting off into the distance, your head floating above clouds like the stars at night.
He wasn't entirely sure how to help you, but he had this compulsive need to. His heart was urging him forward, his brain was racking up ideas as to what could be causing your symptoms of grief.
"(Y/n)...." he started as he stood up towering you, "You need to stand up and help me. It's up to us to stop Chloe."
He reached out for you to grab his hand. "Listen, I need to talk to you again about what you said at the cabin. Do you attend to kill every last vampires? Is that truly what you wish for a heart of hearts? Would you rather if one day you would kill Zero if he's gone berserk?"
You gasp by his sudden question. Would you kill Zero?
No.
You shook your head. "I....no. I don't know. I can't possibly look back. I don't have what it takes to save someone like Zero. So I can't have what I want."
Vanitas smiled. "Why not?"
"I just can't. But if I don't stop them choosing more, Sacrificial Bride, they'll just end up like Kanato's wax figures." you sniff, endless tears never stop falling. "So, that's why I can't bring you into so much trouble. What if one day they hurt you and make you as a wax doll? I won't be able to forgive myself."
"Pft Hahah!" Vanitas started to laugh and made you dumbfounded. He suddenly grab you hand pulling you up in surprise while his other hand wrapped around your waist smiling profoundly.
"You know me too well, that I'm not gonna die easily. I have to live at least as long as you, (Y/n)." His eyes shined with truth as you stared deep into them.
"I told you I promised I will be your executioner to stop Karlheinz and his sons if you were ever to be taken away from me."
You weren't entirely sure if he would be able to fulfill your wishes, the look in his eyes gave you a sense of hope that you haven't felt in years.
"I love you, Ma cherie." He answered confidently, his heart pounding even faster as you recoiled. "You are my destiny and I have to be the one to make your wish come true. Whatever that wish is, so go on....tell me."
