TW : MISGENDERING, SEXIST BITS

•••

TRAVIS AND I are now sitting in my room, talking. But, most of the talking was done by me and only the occasional sarcastic comment from Travis every now and then.

Our fathers are still in the meeting room, discussing wedding plans for the two of us. Even if Travis and I weren't happy about marry each other, we were having a pretty nice time just talking to each other.

Arranged marriages are awful, especially considering me and Travis are only 19. I've always thought that forced marriages are bad. You see them happening to other people and think 'that's terrible' but you'd never expect it to happen to you-- until it does. Then you're in shock and awe of what just happened.

You never realise just how bad it really was until you feel the real pain yourself.

I sigh and glance out my window. The sun was setting and it casted a bright gold-like color into my room.

Travis notices my evident sigh in displeasure and looks at me.

"So...why do you think your father's doing this?"

I shift my stare from my window over to Travis, then looked to the ground in thought. I didn't actually know why my father was doing this. Was it for revenge? Maybe because he doesn't except me? Considering he still calls me a girl, I'd assume that there is a good chance that's the reason.

"I don't really know, to be honest with you. Could be because he hates me, but I really don't know."
I confess.

Travis raises an eyebrow and looks to the ground as well.

"Do you know why your father's making you marry me?"
I ask and look up at Travis.

He seemed hesitant, almost like he didn't want to say anything.

"I do...know why."
Travis mumbles.

"So..? Why is he making you?"
I press on.

Travis doesn't move his gaze from the floor as he speaks up.
"I don't really want to say..."

I frown.
"Are you sure? You can trust me."
I smile reassuringly at Travis.

I pat the spot beside me on my bed, indicating I want him to scoot closer to me. Travis looks at me for a moment, before glancing at the seat beside me and slowly moving closer.

"I won't tell a soul, I promise."
I say as I grab Travis' hand in mine and rub my thumb over his knuckles softly.

He flinched slightly at the sudden contact, but, looked into my eyes after.
