Izuku always hated feeling alone.

Alone felt cold. Like when someone would glance in his direction in middle school, their face contorting with disgust. Izuku could never forget the cold, hallow feeling in his chest every time that happened.

No, Izuku definitely didn't like the cold.

It never mattered how many people surrounded him. He always felt alone.

That was until he came to U.A. People were nice to him here. Their glances weren't cold. They were warm.

He wasn't warm now though, stood in the bathroom of his dorm.

Why did everyone have to go and leave me?

No Izuku wasn't warm at all, he felt cold as he stared at his reflection in the shattered mirror. He had punched it in a small fit of uncontrolled emotion.

He's used to not speaking to anyone with his 16 years of practice, but he had friends now. For the first time in his life he had real friends. Ones that don't use their quirks on him just because they can. Ones who don't make fun of him. No, these were real friends. Ones he could smile and laugh with. Understandably, its difficult for him to be away from them.

They chased away the cold feeling crawling through his chest, expanding to the tips of his fingers and down to his toes. He felt warm with them.

He hated himself for being so selfish. They have better things to do, more IMPORTANT things, than hold his hand all day.

The voice inside his head made itself known as it commented on every way Izuku held his friends back. Every way in which he was a burden. Afterall, who'd want to be friends with a mute? How can he hope to save people?

Izuku trembled as he stared at the shards of glass scattered on his floor, fragments of his reflection staring back at him. There was nothing he could do to combat the voice as it tormented him.

Frustrated, Izuku dragged his fingers through his green mop of hair as he began to feel as if he's losing his mind. He's not that far off actually. He was always told crazy people hear voices in their head, especially voices that told them to end their lives as Izuku's currently was. Even going so far as to list off ways for him to do so.

No, no I can't be going crazy.

"Deku?"

The voice, Izuku recognised to be Uraraka, broke through his inner torment from the other side of the door. There he goes again, being saved by one of his friends. He really was pathetic.

Wiping his eyes and tear stained cheeks, When did I start crying?, Izuku placed his usual too bright smile on his face and opened the door to greet his friend.

"Deku have you been crying?" the brunette asked, concern lacing her voice as she examined his puffy eyes.

Besides Inko, the doctors and the staff at U.A, Izuku's friends were the only ones who knew he was a mute. Well some of his friends. The ones who were in on the secret were Uraraka, Iida, Todoroki, Kirishima, and Kaminari.

They had wanted to know why their classmate never spoke and, with permission from Izuku, Inko had told them.

The group had promised to keep it a secret, even going as far as to learn sign language for him. Now he can join in on their conversations rather than just nodding or shaking his head every so often. The best part was that Kirishima hadn't told Bakugou, regardless of how close the two were.

Izuku could never be more grateful for that. He had been made fun of for enough things throughout his life already, Izuku saw no need to add his mute status to the list and is determined to keep it a secret.
