Chapter 16
Jensen was full aware of everything now. And so was I. There's only one reason why A.M would come back, and it's not to see her kid again. I can't let her take Kyle. I won't let him fall for her words.
"Kyle?" She asked, her voice quivering. Everyone else could buy that but not me.
"Is it really you m-mom?" Kyle asked, his voice faltering on the word "mom" because he hasn't used it in so long, in ever.
"Yes, baby, it's me." She said, using the same motherly tone she used on me when she first saw me. I was disgusted from just listening.
I grabbed a pillow from the brown couch that was next to me and I placed Jensen's head on it. I got up, making sure to not move my left arm as much. When I got to the door, I glared at her, but her motherly face didn't drop, not even for a second.
"Emma," She smiled, wiping away a tear.
"What the hell are you doing here!" I accidentally shouted, making Kyle flinch from the corner of my eye.
"Emma, what is wrong with you! Why are you being so hostile to our own mother!" He shouted. I realized then, that Kyle wouldn't treat me the same, not after the fact that I clearly chose Jensen over my old pack.
I pulled Kyle aside, and I whispered fiercely to him, making sure our "mother" wouldn't hear.
"Kyle, do not fall for her words. While I was out, I met her and she told me things that make you question everything. She is going to try and suck you into something she's been apart of for so long. She's not who she appears to be. Don't. Listen. To. Her." I whispered slowly, so that he could grasp the whole purpose of this side conversation.
"I won't turn my back on my family. Not like you." He said harshly. What happened to the brother I looked up to?
"Kyle, who's at the door?" I heard my dad say. I wouldn't know how she would play this out, and I was slightly worried.
"Mom." Kyle replied, turning away from me. His voice portraying that of hope.
From behind me, I felt arms on my shoulder that were leading out the door. I didn't think twice about who it was because it instantly brought security and calm to me.
Jensen and I passed A.M and she whispered something so low that if I wasn't near her I wouldn't have heard her at all.
"Hold your tongue darling, I've come to collect my soldier. This one will be much easier." Her motherly face fell and was replaced by the hard woman I saw five days ago.
When the door closed, something Jensen did, I leaned into him, feeling weak and light headed. Kyle would be easier to break, I just know it.
"Come on Emma, I need you to phase, you're wrist will get worse." He said into my ear, low and calming.
It was darker now, the half moon was right in front of us. The summer breeze was no longer warm but fresh. Still, it created goosebumps on my skin. The old brown trees in front of us looked inviting, the way their branches wafted around in the same motion as the wind.
I nodded, signaling for Jensen to let go of me so that I could phase. It would hurt twice as much, because then it would be me and my wolf who were feeling it. Together.
