At noon, Nora finally dragged herself out from beneath her covers and ventured to the kitchen for coffee. Lex had apparently already returned from her classes for the day, because Nora found her at the counter, a textbook open in front of her.
"Hi beauty queen," Lex greeted as Nora rubbed the sleep from her eyes. "I thought I heard you moving around in there, so I made you some coffee—should still be hot." She gestured to the pot and then returned to her reading.
"Thank you," Nora yawned, pouring herself a mug. "I love you."
Lex looked up from her book again to reply, "I love you. How was work last night?"
As she took a sip of her coffee, Nora shrugged. "Stupid Leafs game," she murmured.
"Oof," Lex huffed. "No broken tables?"
It made Nora smile. "No broken tables," she admitted. "So I guess it could've been worse."
Nora felt her phone buzz in the pocket of her pajama pants, so she removed it as Lex dropped her head back to her book. With a sigh, Nora opened her messages—it was her work chat.
