Nolan's pov

I should've been doing my homework but I was watching Lily doing her homework. Anyone who didn't know her past would think she was just fine but I did know and I couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking. Lily was insulted and bullied by Ella's friends today and yet, she didn't seem the least bit bothered by it. It made me kind of angry, our mother brainwashed her so much that she couldn't even express what she was thinking right now. Lily had to be thinking and feeling something and yet, she couldn't say what that is. Lily was raised to be a robot, a robot that just produced what mother wanted and wasn't allowed to deviate from what she was told and wasn't allowed to feel anything so she doesn't know how to feel at all. Lily wasn't taught how to feel or how to deal with things and as a result, she's an unfeeling robot today. I can't stand it.

"Okay, this is driving me crazy! How can you not feel anything after what happened today!?!" I yelled,

"Nolan, you don't have to yell," Ella said,

"Yes, I do! Those kids bullied our sister today and she's sitting here like there's no problem in the world!" I yelled,

"Yelling won't solve anything," Ella said,

"Are you not going to say anything?" I said to Lily.

Lily didn't answer me, she was sitting in her chair and she was staring off into space, her eyes were wide. I noticed how shallow her breathing was and it scared me. I moved towards her and put my hand on her shoulder, she flinched as if my touch burned her. Lily fell from her chair and landed on the floor.

"Please, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to, I swear," Lily yelled,

"Lily, calm down, I didn't mean to-

"I'm sorry, Mother, please don't! I promise it won't happen again!" Lily yelled,

"Lily! Mom's not here, calm down," I said, just as Chance ran into the room,

"What's going on in here?" He demanded,

"Nolan got mad and started yelling about what happened at school today, then Lily fell off her chair and starting yelling about mom," Ella said with tears in her eyes,

"NO! Mother, please, don't hurt me! I'm so sorry!" Lily yelled, Chance moved to Lily and he started talking to her,

"Lily, honey, can you hear me? It's me, it's Chance," Chance said,

"Mother, please, I'm sorry," Lily said,

"Lily, it's Chance, mom isn't here, it's okay, Bunny" Chance said,

"No! Please, no!" Lily yelled,

"Lily, it's okay, I'm here. It's me, it's Chance, mom isn't here," Chance said,

"C-chance?" Lily said shakily,

"Yes, baby, it's me," Chance said,

"What's going on?" Lily asked,

"You were having a flashback," Chance said,

"Oh, I'm sorry," Lily said guiltily,

"It's not your fault, you have nothing to be sorry for," Chance said,

"But-

"No buts, little lady, you have nothing to be sorry for and I won't hear another word of it," Chance said,

"Lily, I'm so sorry, I-

"Ella and Lily, go upstairs, I need to talk to Nolan, alone," Chance said, Once the girls left, Chance turned to me,

"Nolan, you can't just yell at Lily like that," Chance said,

"But, I was angry about what happened today and she was just sitting there as though nothing happened and that made me even angrier," I said,
