we have a sleepover!

josie scoffed for the umpteenth time after miss stacy announced their school assignment. the girls were just about tired enough hearing her complaints, but telling her to quiet down would just make her complain more — so nothing was said.

the assignment wasn't that difficult: everyone has to switch lives with their partner for a day, doing what their partner would do in the daily. all while said partner would accommodate you along the way.

after a day of living your partner's life, an essay would be written of what you think about their lifestyle. is it too tedious? is it too eventful? that's for you to decide. the objective of this assignment is for everyone to see how different people's lives could be, even when you're the same age.

josie would've been peachy if her partner was jane — or tillie, since they practically share the same routines. although, partners were paired up by miss stacy (which also made josie sigh), and she ended up partners with charlie sloane.

"can you believe it? out of all the heads in this school she partnered me with charlie sloane? outrageous! i'm telling you, mr. phillips was a way better teacher than she could ever be." josie said in the most annoying tone of voice, taking a bite of her peeled, sliced apples.

the rest of the girls completely disagree with josie's opinion — obviously, some of them are also bugged with the assignments, but not to the extent where they'd say mr. phillips is better than miss stacy.

they were glad anne wasn't here (she was speaking to miss stacy about the assignment), or else she'd make a whole debate to defend her beloved teacher.

"you're just saying that because mr. phillips never gave us any work." aurelia said, stealing a slice of josie's apples. immediately, she swiped her lunch away to prevent aurelia from taking more of her food.

this made aurelia scoff. no one wanted her snack plate lunch anyways. really, crackers and apple slices? that's certainly not a lunch.

"which was completely appropriate of him to do," josie argued. "too much work would just give us headaches. besides, if you can't remember what you've learnt just because of no assignments, then that's your problem."

tired of bickering, aurelia rolled her eyes and finished her apple slice.

finally feeling like she had a chance to speak, ruby asked — "who did you get, aurelia?"

"i'm happy with mine," she grinned. "i got anne."

"lucky you," diana mumbled. "billy's my partner."

aurelia elbowed josie. "that's worse than charlie, aye?" aurelia and anne were the only girls brave enough to tease josie like this. as much as jane was comfortable enough joking around with her, she wouldn't dare to poke fun at her when she's frustrated about something.

"i'm pretty sure miss stacy just wanted to separate you from anne for once," jane joined in. "you're always with that girl."

diana chuckled. "she's my best friend, jane. what do you expect?"

the rest of the day went by like any other school day, nothing momentous happened. although, aurelia was really excited to sleep over at the cuthberts.

since it was the weekend, anne thought it would be easier for them to complete their assignment if they started as soon as they can. therefore, aurelia would be going home with anne, and she would sleep over for a day to live anne's life.

as for aurelia's parents, miss stacy said she would help, since she needed to buy some art supplies from charlottetown after school. while she does that, she would swing by aurelia's parents' shop to inform them of her absence for the next day.
