the sun sleeps

all the activities they've done today made aurelia exhausted! she did more in a day than what she'd do in a month, it's absolutely demented.

for this, aurelia was more than content to finally get ready for slumber. her father should arrive in a while to pick up both her and anne. she can't wait to show anne her routine tomorrow!

although, aurelia was a bit nervous. after seeing and doing all of what anne would do in a day, her daily pattern suddenly seems too dull. she was afraid anne would think ill of her life, in contrast of how colourful anne's life is.

though it wasn't the time to be upset, there was still one more thing to do before anne's routine was complete. instead of doing it by her own, aurelia helped anne undo her beautiful braids and brush her hair.

anne did tell her, that if it was too much of a hassle, she could do it by herself - but aurelia had already begun her job.

aurelia always loved playing with anne's hair - braiding it, brushing it, simply running her fingers through her ravishing red locks, she loves doing all of those. anne's hair was just so pretty to look at!

she began by removing the flowers anne put one by one, then gently undoing the double braids (anne's signature hairdo). aurelia's hands were so soft, to the extent where anne didn't feel like there was a tug of war going on her head (which she feels when marilla does it).

afterwards, aurelia brushed anne's hair with her hairbrush, doing slow strokes to make sure none of the strands were tangled. anne quietly hummed a tune with her eyes closed shut, enjoying the treatment her beloved friend was giving her.

in the middle of anne's hair care, marilla came in the room to call out the girls, for mr. thatcher was already waiting outside.

the two girls quickly gathered all the stuff necessary, and headed straight downstairs. anne was already out the door when aurelia caught a glimpse of the nosegay bouquet she made on the table.

quickly, she took the bouquet and rushed outside. for some reason, aurelia felt the need to do this one thing before she went in the carriage.

she threw her school bag in anne's arms, and told her father to ride out the gate, and that she will be back as soon as ever.

as her father was riding out to wait by the gate, aurelia thanked matthew and marilla for all the care they've given, and ran towards the barn.

heavily breathing, aurelia propped herself next to a stack of hay.

"jerry, are you there?" she composed her balance, and looked around the barn. no sights of jerry almost made her change her mind, when suddenly she heard a voice from above.

"yes, yes, i am here." jerry tipped his hat from the loft of the barn. "may i help you, aurelia?"

"well it isn't help that i need," she giggled. "i just wanted to give you these." she explained, holding the bouquet of flowers high to show jerry her work, that she is the upmost proud of.

"oh," jerry gasped. "for me?"

"i mean, i honestly don't know who else to give these to." aurelia shrugged, trying to act calm. when in reality, she didn't want jerry to think she made it just for him. which confused her, why wouldn't she want him to think it was for him? what's wrong with that?

"i wanted to give it to my mother, but the baby is allergic to flowers." she explained, in a hasty and nervous tone. "you're.. not allergic to them too, are you?"

"no!" jerry yelled, quite too loud for some reason. "no, i'm not. you can put it on the hay, i'll bring it home tomorrow."

aurelia placed the bouquet gently on the lowest stack of hay, before giving jerry a smile. she walked away without waiting for a 'goodbye', or a 'thank you.'

suddenly, the farm hand called out her name.

"wait, aurelia!" she turned her head. "they're really, pretty." he said, rubbing his nape. "thank you." jerry smiled.

this made her grin. a very big, grin, might i add.

"you're welcome jerry, au revoir!" she waved, scurrying towards her father's carriage.

jerry simply waved, watching her ride off into the woods.

"au revoir, aurelia." he said, under his breath, eyeing the bouquet of flowers on the hay stack below him.

they really are pretty, especially since aurelia's hands were the one that prepared them — and in jerry's head, he likes to think that she really did made them just for him.
