warmth of the kitchen

what should have been a short nap ended up lasting quite a longer time than expected. it looks like the conversation really drained the girls.

aurora, aurelia's younger sister silently walked into the room to wake up her two sisters (anne treats her like her sister, so now she counts her as one).

gently shaking aurelia's shoulder, she whispered right next to her ear.

"aurelia, wake up." no response, so she went to anne.

"anne, it's time to wake up." she whispered, carefully pulling the blanket off. her attempt to do so failed as anne quickly pulled it back on.

sighing to herself, aurora figured there was only one way left to wake the two sleeping beauties. on the count of three, she ran from a distance and jumped on the bed between the girls.

this obviously caused the bed to rattle, and the older sister was shaken awake. hearing high-pitched giggling, aurelia knew by heart who the cause of this whole ruckus was.

"you should be grateful i'm in a pleasant mood, aurora." aurelia smiled, stretching her arms as she sat up straight. "or else you'd be having a different outcome than this one." she joked, lightly pinching her sister's ear, before the little one ran off downstairs.

surprisingly, anne was still asleep like a baby after the wake up mess. aurelia found this really adorable, and quite alarming at the same time - how anne could sleep through all this commotion.

shaking anne's figure a bit harder, aurelia tried to wake up the soundly sleeping redhead. she felt a bit guilty, seeing how comfortable anne looked. nevertheless, she still had to - since dinner was due not too long.

"is it already morning?" anne asked groggily, forcing herself to sit up, while rubbing her eyes gently.

aurelia stifled a laugh. "no, anne. we're just about to prepare dinner." she replied, getting up and smoothing the creases on her dress, in which anne followed shortly after.

the two girls went downstairs after making sure they were presentable enough, and the bed was made clean. aurelia never forgets her mother's advice: to make sure everything is organised and easy on the eye.

hearing creaks from the stairs, mrs. thatcher caught the sight of the girls cheery running to the kitchen. she was sure they would be too energised from their long nap to even sleep a wink later.

"seems like you two aren't getting any sleep tonight." she teased, getting the ingredients ready for tonight's meal.

"i sure hope we do," anne said, propping herself besides aurelia. "tomorrow's a school day. i wouldn't want to miss any precious slumber time! i could end up dozing off in class, wouldn't that just be horrific? imagine how disappointed miss stacy would be to find her beloved student snoring during her teaching time? oh that would be so dreadful. we must sleep tonight, aurelia, we must!" anne plead, grasping aurelia's arm like there was no tomorrow.

"alright, alright, take a deep breath anne." aurelia laughed. "that's not going to happen. you're always the most lively when it comes to schoolwork, anyway."

"i hope the two of you are equally lively to get dinner ready." mrs. thatcher said, in which the girls replied with an excited hum.

dinner for tonight was chicken potpie with a side of mashed potatoes. aurelia and anne were given the task to make the mashed potatoes.

mrs. thatcher taught aurelia how to make the most delicious mashed potatoes back when aurelia was younger, so she was sure her daughter could guide anne just like how she did.

aurelia made sure anne boiled the potatoes carefully, to avoid any injuries happening. she also gave anne the honours to mash the potatoes, which was aurelia's favourite part of the recipe.

after prepping the mashed potatoes into a ceramic bowl, the appetiser was ready to be served. aurora seemed thrilled, since mashed potatoes were her absolute favourite dish.

since there were still some time left, the girls decided to help set the table. making sure each seat gets its own plate, fork, and spoon. not forgetting their glasses to drink as well.

anne loved the atmosphere of the thatcher home, they were always so enthusiastic about what they do - which anne is unconditionally fond of.

matthew once told her, that the tightness of a family bond can be seen by putting them in a room. if the room were to be silent and awkward, then there must be some sort of problem between the members.

although, anne seemed to find no flaw in this family. she realised how lucky aurelia was to have relations as loving as hers, and how lucky her family was to have a daughter as amazing as she.
