Chapter 10
The following day found George making the residents of Spookville line up. It wasn't easy for the tricksters, spooks, or fear mongering to form an orderly line and wait their turn.
All of them were sure trying his patience. When one of the werewolves set a firework beneath the witch in front of him, who in retaliation, set the wolf on fire with a quick spell, George had had enough.
"You will line up now or rue the day you became a part of this Holidaze," George roared and wondered where he found the gumption to speak so boldly.
Everyone froze and stared at him. Each individual then stood in line with barely a murmur or a twitch of a limb.
"See its not that hard. Once you've had your turn you can return to your tricking and spooky ways," George informed them and the crowd relaxed.
"Good job," Devinah said as she nudged him in the side.
As much as George wanted to bask in her compliment, he didn't think he'd earned it. All he had done was to boss some restless beings into line.
"Are we ready?" Sander called as he waved to George.
"Yes, let's get this started."
By the middle of the day, the line had vanished, and George went to see if Sander had any answers. He wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but anything had to be better than nothing.
"I don't understand," Sander said with a frown, "are you sure that's everybody who helped you to build the haunted house?"
"Yes, but its not all of the beings within the Holidaze," Devinah replied.
"I don't know everybody to know if that was every single being who belongs here," George added.
"Hmmm, well it wasn't any of them," Sander mused, "and none of them had the familiar feeling that we discovered at the petting zoo."
"Honestly, the only one I really know from the Halloween Holidaze is or was Severson," Cupid admitted.
Sander stared at Cupid and his frown cleared, "the only one I know is Severson to. This isn't exactly the friendliest Holidaze. They're always playing tricks and acting sneaky."
"This Severson, isn't he the one who's supposed to be the king of this place?" George asked and every head nodded.
"Why would he want to make a haunted house into a petting zoo," Sander tapped his chin thoughtfully.
All eyes once again turned to George and he didn't know what to say. He gulped and tried not to twitch, but it didn't stop the others staring at him.
"Devinah, when you first saw us, didn't you mention something about George being Severson's son and that's why the Higher Gods put him in the job?" Sander asked.
Devinah, who had stayed quiet through this whole process, nodded her head. George found himself spluttering. Why did everyone want to insist that his father, who he didn't know, was the reason he was here? It was this Severson guys fault for ditching the Halloween Holidaze.
"I don't know my father," George raised his voice.
"Maybe you don't, but what if he's trying to get to know you?" Sander asked as he pushed his glasses higher onto his face.
"I don't understand."
"I suggest a test," Sander raised finger into the air.
"Like what?"
"You need to make something else as spooky as possible. Take as long as you need, but both of you," Sander pointed between George and Devinah, "work on it together, like you did with the haunted house."
