The four started walking, both girls asked questions about the place. Mainly ellie who was fascinated by what happened, Cassie just admiring the devastating beauty. The two girls hands had separated, Cassie dragging her fingertips over cars and buildings. They came to a stop in front of an extremely dark collapsed building

"so, the state house is across there, its about a ten minute walk if you could go straight" Tess explained

"so?"

"long way or short way?" Joel asked

"i mean its the long way or the 'were fucking dead' way" Tess shrugged

"well i vote long way just based on the limited information" Ellie nodded

"yeah i second that" Cassie held up her hand

"we have to check it from the hotel first" Joel instructed, Tess nodding and set off walking again with the two girls on her trail. They walked past abandoned cars and restaurants, stores and houses. All abandoned and all covered in moss. They got onto what once was a highway, Joel falling further behind them as the three girls stayed close together. Cassie quickly pulled off her bag, grabbing the camera that was buried at the bottom before taking photos of the landscape.

It was almost dead and Cassie could only wish for a battery to keep it alive, she had refused before to look back at photos from the night in the mall but now she had Ellie by her side maybe they could sift through them together.

"where the fuck are they already" Ellie asked as Cassie shoved the camera back into her bag

"you'll know it when they're close" Tess told the brunette

"i didn't know last time"

"how did you get bit" Tess questioned the girl, Cassie swore the girl had already covered that before. Maybe she had dreamt it

"you know the old mall in the QZ?"

"the one that's sealed of and boarded up and no ones supposed to go in, ever? That one?" Tess spoke sarcastically

"whatever. I snuck in. Wanted to see what it was like, didn't think there was gonna be anything in there and then one just came at me out of no where. Thought i got away but" Ellie then shrugged

"so it was just you in there, alone?" Tess asked as they came to a stop

"i was there" Cassie paused "i um, it was my idea actually"

"how old are you?" The older woman asked the kids

"sixteen" Ellie answered

"wow, i mean you got some balls on you sister" Tess shrugged, turning to continue walking, climbing over cars that blocked their path. Cassie turned to Ellie with a small smirk, the girl returning it before they followed behind the woman "nobody's gonna be coming after either of you right? like mom, dad, boyfriend?"
