◜chapter thirty three◞

It was very early the next morning when the girls were woken up by a crunching noise. Ellie shot up which woke Cassie up, the two then realised they were no longer alone in the room. The two girls kneeled, their hands up in surrender as the older looking boy of the two boys that had joined them pointed his hun at them. The younger one pointing his at Joel. Cassie was still half asleep and tried to process what was going on as Ellie called for Joel.

The man, once realising they were in danger, span and saw the gun that was pointed at him, the little boy holding a finger up to his lips. Cassie was absolutely shitting it, every time she tried to reach of Ellie's hand for the slightest bit of comfort the barrel of a gun was pressed up against the back of her head.

"eyes on me" the older of the two newcomers told Joel, the two girls both shaking in fear "you dont have to worry about what to say, we dont want to hurt you. We want to help you"

"okay" Joel's voice was monotone, Cassie shooting him a glare

"okay?" There was a pause between them "i dont know what the next step is with something like this but if i lower my gun, we didn't hurt you so you dont hurt us. Right?"

"that's right" The mans voice stayed the same, Cassie glaring at him harder

"that's a weird fucking tone man"

"That's just the way he sounds, he has an asshole voice" Ellie reassured, looking back at the man "Joel, tell him he's okay"

"everything is great" His tone never changed

"fucker" Cassie mumbled

"dude" Ellie exclaimed

"okay, listen. Im gonna trust you" The two new boys communicated silently as the other three watched "but if any of you try anything! yeah?"

"yeah" Both Ellie and Cassie mumble in response. The younger boy stepping away from Joel

"can i sit up?" The man asked. The older boy agreed, telling him to move slowly. Joel did as told "who are you"

"my names henry" The boy introduced himself "that's my brother Sam. Im the most wanted man in Kansas city although right now? my guess is your running a close second"

and as Henry lowered his gun, Ellie was quick to grab Cassie, the two holding each other in a tight embrace.

The five sat around a glowing camp light eating food that Ellie and Cassie still had in their backpacks. The two girls sat side by side, arms pressed against one another and knees resting togethers. It was quiet for the most part, the two separate groups trying to get a feel for each other and neither fully trusting the other.

"where'd you get these?" It was henry who broke the silence and Ellie, who hated silences, was quick to respond

"from bill. Hes dead"

Joel finished up his food and handed the remains to the little boy they learned was called Sam, the boy signing something to his brother

"he says thank you" Henry told the man "im guessing you dont have much so this means a lot"

"how old is he?" Ellie asked the older of the two, the boys then signing to each other. Cassie watched with a smile, wondering how she would be with a little sibling. She guessed not as good as henry is with Sam

"he's eight" Henry told the girl

"cool, im Ellie" The girl turned to the younger boy "this is my best friend Cassie"

They all watched as Henry signed her words to the younger boy who instantly signed back with a smile directed towards the girls. Ellie then smacked the mans knee and signalled him to introduce himself which made Cassie chuckle to herself knowing how closed off the man was.

"Im Joel. Look, you ate, we didn't kill each other, lets call this a win-win and move on" The man instructed

"well im betting that yall came up here to get a view of the city and plan a way out?" Henry asked rhetorically "and when the suns up, ill show you one."

The two girls looked at one another before turning to Joel with eager eyes awaiting a response that they knew was going to be a reluctant yes.

short chapter because i really wanted to get something out for you lot, i hate not uploading frequently but ive been extremely busy and will be for the foreseeable future. Its my birthday in 9 days (the 23rd of may) and ive been partying with family that dont live local, doing a shit ton of course work and working my arse off. I cant promise anything but i WILL try to get more chapters out soon!
