The group catch up with Sarah, her explaining how Rafe had jumped her that night by trying to drown her. She reluctantly added how Topper saved her, making John B become tense.
Sarah and John B sit on the hammock while you and JJ grab some beers from the fridge. 'In celebration' JJ announced. As you sit on your kitchen counter, JJ's phone buzzes.
He grabs his phone, picking up, "Hello?" He answers. You watch as his expression turns to confusion into worry. "What?" You ask him concerned.
He gestures you to follow him, "Pope! Pope!" JJ calls as the two of you make your way over to the shed where Kie and Pope were. "Just got a call from Guffy. Something happened to your pops." JJ explains.
"What?" Pope asks softly as he follows JJ. The two of them running, with you and Kie behind. "Sarah! John B! Come on!" You shout, making them look over towards the four of you running towards the Twinkie. You all pile into the Twinkie, John B driving as quickly as possible to Pope's house.
Once you arrive, Pope gets out quickly shouting for his dad. But stops as he sees him with a bloodied bruise on his forehead, "Pops.." He trails as he sees his wounds. The group gasp as you guys get to Pope and his dad.
"Let me know if i'm hurting you." Sarah says as she cleans his wound, putting a bandage on it. "You're doing just fine." He says with a painful groan. "Thank you darling." He winces as Sarah places it firmly against his wound.
"Pop, what happened?" Pope asks his dad, his dad sighs. He explains how he was jumped by some guy asking about 'a key'. Pope looks around the group with a knowing sigh, the group exchanging looks. "And in case you were wondering... i didn't tell 'em nothing." His dad says.
"Did you track it down?" His dad asks, Pope reaches into his pocket, pulling out the key and giving it to Heyward. Heyward tells Pope to not give it up, to figure out what it opens. He suggests asking his great-grandma.
The next day, you and the others take the Twinkie and head over to Pope's great-grandma's. "So Limbrey said that the key leads to some sort of cross." Pope explains. "Are we supposed to know what that is?" Sarah asks. "I'm guessing it's some sort of historical artifact of great importance." Pope says.
Kie searches up a picture of it, showing it to the group. "That's one big ass cross." You say pointing out that it's larger than a human male.
You finally make it to the retirement home Pope's grandma lived at, Pope getting out and the rest of you starting to follow. "Actually," Pope says turning to you guys, "I think i'm gonna do this one by myself." He says. "Are you sure?" Kie asks, "Yeah, i can handle it. I don't really need you, so..." Pope says. Kie rolls her eyes at this remark.
You bite your lip, your eyes widening as you share a glance with JJ. The atmosphere so tense it could be cut with a knife. "Oh, we're just all one big happy family today, aren't we?" JJ says sarcastically. Pope doesn't say anything, walking towards the retirement home. "Pick you up in a bit." John B shouts from the window, Pope nods waving his hand, gesturing a 'see ya'
