~~~~Hailee’s POV~~~~
I've been interviewing boring people all day. Not that boring is bad for an assistant, but they all have the same idea that working for me is going to make them connections and then they can use this as a stepping stone into film or music. Which is fine, I was expecting that, but I don't know. I want someone that wants to stick around. I only have one more interview today, and then a few more throughout the week, but after today, I'm worried that I won't find my new assistant quite so easily. My last interviewee is one that I was intrigued by, but I don't know that she's actually qualified. Her resume was different from everyone elses. I hear her knock on the door and nod for security to let her in. I hear her introduce herself, and detect the nervousness in her voice. That's sweet, nobody else has paid any attention to Marcus. When she moves past him and approaches me, I have to force my jaw to stay shut. She's gorgeous. God damn. Short, curly hair with an undercut, ugh! That's so cute! When I start talking, my voice wavers as I try not to show how taken I am with her. She starts talking about why she wants the job and never once mentions my fame, or making connections, just that she would see cool stuff and do something she enjoys. It's honestly refreshing. I'm genuinely impressed by her ability to stay calm when I ask her if she's a fan, but I see how her eyes light up when she mentions the specific projects she likes. I'll have to ask her more in depth questions if I hire her. Who am I kidding? She's by far my favorite candidate, I should be thinking when I hire her. Seriously, I doubt I'll even do the rest of my interviews, I like her that much. Her answers are genuine and I really love her vibe. When she's leaving, I tell her she'll get a call, and she asks from who. I can't help but flirt a little bit when I answer, and as soon as the door shuts behind her, I feel my face flush. Y/n Y/l/n, it's your lucky day; I'm the queen of making things difficult for myself. I text Flo on my way home.
HS: Hey, I think I found my new assistant, but there's a problem.
FP: ?
HS: She's incredibly hot.
FP: Hahahahaha!! Who says that's a problem?
HS: What if I get distracted?
FP: Oh, please, you work with hot people all of the time.
FP: Is she the most qualified?
HS: No, but she has the best vibe/attitude.
HS: I think she'll actually like the job.
FP: That's what you wanted, someone who'll stick with you.
HS: Exactly! And she's so sweet and funny, we got along really well.
FP: Just do it, I'm sure you'll deal with how attractive she is, and if you can't, maybe it's meant to be ;)
HS: Shut up.
I get home and shoot my manager a text that we need to get together and start going over paperwork and things for y/n. Then, I look at her instagram. She really is gorgeous. I scroll down a bit and find some pictures of her with a tank top on, showing off a sleeve of tattoos. She had long sleeves on earlier so I couldn't see them, but wow they look good. I zoom in a little bit to see that several of them are Marvel themed. Oh, she really held it together earlier. That's super impressive. I keep scrolling, looking for a Kate Bishop or Hawkeye one, and don't see any. For some reason, it deflates me a little bit. Okay, I gotta stop stalking. I should also still do the rest of the interviews, just in case my attraction really is blinding me. I take one last look at the sleeve picture and close out my phone.
A Few Days Later
~~~~~
Each interview today has felt excruciating compared to y/n's. A couple of people freaked out when they saw me, and one girl literally feinted. Those that didn't freak out were way too obviously interested in making connections over being my assistant. I don't mind my future assistant doing that, but these people made me feel like they were just going to use me, and I don't like that. After my last candidate walks out, I look at my security guard, who gives me a knowing smile.
"Tell me it's gonna be the nice one," Marcus laughs.
"You mean the only one that said hello to you? Because yes."
"Good."
On the way home, I call her. When she answers, she sounds half asleep, her voice thick with exhaustion. I remember that right now, she works at night, and I feel bad that I woke her up. She sounds shocked when I tell her she got the job, which makes me smile. She clearly underestimates herself. I text Flo to tell her it's official, and she calls me.
"Okay, so you hired her!"
"Yes. I did."
"And? Tell me more, idiot."
"I can't, we just talked on the phone. She starts in two weeks."
"Well I'd better get daily updates on this cutie."
"Do you wanna look at her instagram?"
"I should have done that already! What is it?" I tell her and listen as she furiously taps the screen. "Ooh. Ooh! Very cute. Ugh, Hailee!! The tattoos! Sooooo hot."
"Stop making fun of me!"
"I'm not! They're actually hot! OOH A BLACK WIDOW ONE!!"
"There's two actually, but neither was for you. I read the captions, they're for the original one." I blow a raspberry into the phone.
"Ugh, don't make me miss Scarlett!"
"You're such a fangirl for her!"
"Of course I am," Flo says, like I'd be an idiot not to be obsessed with Scarlett Johansson. Which, of course, I would.
"I have to go, but I will keep you updated, okay?"
"Good!" Flo squeals again and we hang up just as I receive a text from my brother.
Griffin: Hey, I heard you're looking for an assistant, how is that going?
HS: Oh, yeah, just hired her, actually.
G: Oooh, her? Is she cute?
HS: Very.
G: Don't go being another girl's queer awakening! :p You’ve broken so many hearts lol.
HS: Nothing to awaken here, she has a rainbow flag in her instagram bio. :P
G: Even more exciting!
G: When do I get to meet her?
HS: She'll be with me all the time, so I'm sure it'll be soon enough.
G: !!!
The next two weeks are going to be excruciatingly long.
