~~~~Y/N’s POV~~~~
The drive to my place is pretty chill, and when I get there, I’m really excited to catch up and have a pizza.“Alex? I’m home!” I call as I enter my apartment for the first time in months. It’s dark, but I can see that everything is pristine, there isn’t even a pile of mail on the table. When I get no response, I flip the light on, only to be startled by Alex and Taylor.
“SURPRISE!” They both jump out from behind the couch, and I about have a coronary.
“Jesus fuck, guys! You could have killed me!”
“Bitch, you deserve it for making us wait so long.” Taylor rounds the couch to smother me in a hug. “We missed you!”
“He isn’t lying,” Alex admits, and joins the hug.
“I missed you, too.”
“Not enough, apparently,” Taylor chides.
“I did too! It’s just-” My cheeks redden as I search for the words. “Hailee can be very, uh, persuasive.” I pull away from the hug and sit on the couch.
“And by persuasive, I’m assuming you mean ‘good at sex’?” Taylor teases, and Alex laughs knowingly.
“If the way I found out they were dating is any indication, I’d say yes to that!” Alex continues cackling.
“Wait, you never told me!” Taylor says to them, then directed at me, ”How did they find out?” Taylor sits next to me and gives me the most expectant look I have ever seen.
“Well, we were on FaceTime, and Hailee was in the other room, getting ready to shower.” I pause, hoping Alex will finish the story, but they’re still catching their breath. “And they overheard her asking me to join her,” I rush out.
“No! Did you?” Taylor leans in conspiratorially.
“After I hung up!” I swat at him. “Heathen.”
“But you should have seen her face when I heard it. Priceless,” Alex tells him, sitting on my other side. We sit and talk for a bit, and I tell them about my various escapades on set, which honestly, mostly included making sure Hailee’s trailer was stocked with Core water at all times and that the right snacks were there at craft services. I can’t really tell them anything about the movie itself yet, but I manage to be entertaining, nonetheless. After a while, we start talking a little bit about Hailee and I again. I tell them about her teasing me at the race today and wanting to come with me to see them, which they can’t help giggling about.
“Okay but seriously, how good is it with her?” Taylor asks.
“The sex, or, like, everything?” I ask in response, hoping for at least some clarification.
“Yes,” he answers. He really is going to be the death of me. I love him for it though.
“Incredible. All of it.” I look between my two best friends. “I’m serious, guys. She’s- ugh! She’s literally perfect. She appreciates me, she believes in me, she notices the little things, she plans cute dates, she values my opinions,” I pause for a second, anticipating a snarky comment, but I get none. “She knows how to make me less anxious, for fuck’s sake. I mean, she makes me feel beautiful, and smart, and safe, and cared for, and,” I pause again, a realization hitting me. ”Loved.” I sit there, jaw open, Taylor and Alex looking at me like they know what’s coming. “She makes me feel loved,” I repeat. “I’m in love with her.” I sound surprised at myself. The words sound unbelievable to me. I mean, I’m talking about Hailee Steinfeld. I’m IN LOVE with her. Holy shit.
“Finally!” Alex says, at the same time Taylor says “Obviously.” I remain dumbstruck.
“What?”
“You’ve been in love with her for a long time, babe,” Taylor chuckles.
“I didn’t know! I’m just now learning this information!” My eyes are wide, and I think I might be freaking out. “I’m in love with a literal celebrity. How did this happen?”
“You’ve been her assistant for over a year already, dude. How did that happen?” Alex nudges me with their shoulder.
“And you’ve been her girlfriend for like 3 months,” Taylor adds. “Plus, you were hooking up for months before that! Why are you surprised now?”
“Oh, fuck. How am I supposed to tell her? What if she freaks out? I can’t lose her now!” I may be spiraling. The doorbell rings, and I jump.
“It’s dinner, y/n.” Alex gets up to answer the door.
“Anyway, that’s impossible. She’s obviously in the same place you are,” Taylor comforts me. He puts an arm around my shoulders.
“You really think so?”
“I’ll know for sure if you ever give me the details I keep asking for!” He shoves me as we go over to the table to eat with Alex.
“Listen, I know I normally give you excessively vivid details about my sex life, but I don’t know if I can with her.” He gives me a look that says ‘that kinky?’ and I laugh. “Not like that! I just. It feels different. Like I only want the two of us to know about it. Plus, I couldn’t tell you now anyway, Alex hates when I get graphic.”
“I do, very much,” Alex agrees. “I am perfectly content with vagaries in that realm of your life.” They shove a huge bite of pizza in their mouth.
“Well, I will be very vague then. Taylor, my sex life is,” I pause, trying to find the perfect word. “Divine.” Both of them choke on their food.
“I need more information, right this second. DIVINE? Y/n, she cannot be that hot and talented and be that good in bed, I will not accept it. In fact, I’ll call bullshit,” Taylor is fully flabbergasted.
“Believe me, I have yet to be unimpressed. And that’s as detailed as I will describe anything,” I tell him before he keeps prodding. “Now can we please stop talking and eat dinner so I can beat your asses at Phase 10?”
“Who said we were playing Phase 10?” Alex asks.
“I did. And I’m gonna win!” They both look at me warily. I’m always a little too competitive when we play Phase 10, and they know it.
“Can’t we play something co-op?” Alex suggests.
“Absolutely not,” I decide, and grab a second slice of pizza. This is gonna be a good night, I can feel it.
