Ana went through the first half of the day in near silence and soon found herself at lunch with a few of her friends.
"What's wrong, Ana?" Josh asked. Ana shrugged.
"Oh nothing really just thinking is all" she replied faking a smile. Josh nodded.
"You sure?"
"Of course! You know how I am. So scatterbrained" she laughed. Josh laughed as well
"Alright then" the rest of lunch went quickly and in the blink of an eye she was ending last period and getting things from her locker. By then, her shock from that morning had worn off. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and headed out the door of the school. As she got into the parking lot, Josh caught up with her.
"Hey, Ana! I finally got a car! Want a ride home?" He asked excitedly. Ana smiled
"Yeah that'd be great!" She replied. As they made their way to Josh's new car, Ana recognise a large black one in the corned of the parking lot. Calum. She tipped her head down hoping not to be noticed by the older boy and began walking faster. Her luck was snatched from her when she heard a car door.
"Ana" a firm voice shouted. She looked up to see Calum clad in black jeans, steel toed boots and a black leather jacket heading their way.
"Who's that?" Josh whispered. Ana shook her head
"Just a guy"
"Is he your boyfriend?"
"No"
"Then why does he look so pissed?" Ana was unable to answer because before she knew it Calum was upon them.
"What are you doing?" Calum snapped. Ana gulped.
"Just getting a ride home. What are you doing?"
"Picking up my baby girl" he replied. Josh looked at her quizzically.
"I'm not your baby girl, Calum" she sighed. Calum grabbed her arm roughly
"Oh yes you are now let's go" he snarled.
"Hey let her go!" Josh spoke up, straightening his back. Calum faced him with a stone cold expression. He stood easily half a foot taller than Josh.
"Oh yeah? What're you gonna do about it, pretty boy?" Calum growled. Josh's look of confidence wavered for a moment.
"Listen, she doesn't wanna go with you. She's coming with me"
"Josh please..." Ana pleaded "let me handle this"
"No way am I letting this creep just go away with you!" Josh exclaimed. Calum clenched a fist at his side, his grip on Ana's arm tightening.
"I'm gonna go with Calum, josh. I'm sorry" she stated. Calum eased significantly. Josh looked crushed.
"B-but you said"
"I know what I said. Just, go home Josh. I'll talk to you later. " josh nodded and stalked to his car. Calum dragged Ana to his.
"What the hell did you think you were doing back there?" Calum roared, pinning Ana against the side of his car. Ana stood tall.
"I was getting a ride home, Calum" she snapped back. Calum leaned closer.
"What did I say about calling me Calum, sweetheart?" Ana didn't let down.
"I don't give a shit what you said about calling you Calum! Just drive me home and then leave me alone!" She shouted. Calum grew stiff.
"Leave you alone is that what you want?"
"Yes!"
"Alright Ana. I'll leave you alone. But you'll miss me. Oh I know you'll miss me. And when you do I won't be there and you'll regret it. You'll regret you said this, Ana Hemmings." Calum said in a voice so calm it was almost more scary than when he was shouting. He stepped away from Ana.
"Starting right now I'll leave you right alone." He stated before getting into his car. Without another word he drove away leaving Ana to walk home.
