A different version of part of an episode in season 4, following Hope switching her humanity off and Josie turning to her dark side for help in a plan.

Authors note:
Hey. Been a long time. I realized I had this one fully written, so may as well post it. I am hoping to get back into writing some of my other fics over the next few months, but we will see. Anyway, hope you enjoy it. If something isn't accurate to the show, just ignore it. I haven't watched it in years :)

(I have checked for mistakes but please let me know if you find any)

Hope sits at the bar, enjoying the environment. The light and fun music set the perfect backdrop for her desire for a drink. The bartender comes over once she signals at him.

"I'll have a glass of the strongest thing you have." She declares confidently.

"You got an ID?" He asks. Hope, undeterred, leans in ever so slightly. She pulls herself closer to the bar top. She stares deeper into his eyes now, focusing.

"You don't need to see that. I'm 21, now get me my drink." He immediately turns his back to grab a glass. She watches him pour it with a smirk, thinking how much better life is with these new abilities. Everything is so much easier.

He hands it to her and goes to serve another customer. Hope takes a sip. The alcohol hits the back of her throat instantly, leaving a burning sensation after she swallows, but she doesn't mind it.

The bar is rather empty, though that is no surprise, as it is the middle of the week. There's still a handful of people, not nearly as much as there would be on the weekend, but still, there's some. Some life, some heartbeats. Hope listens to each one as they play their tune - the sound of blood pumping through veins. She picks out one, a heartbeat that seems stronger than the rest. And it certainly doesn't hurt that the beat belongs to a gorgeous young woman. Hope raises her glass, looking in the direction of this girl. Hope waits patiently for some form of a response, for some recognition that she is looking in her direction.

The girl notices. She smiles at Hope, raising her glass back. Hope smirks, tilting her head down to take a sip from her glass and-

"Bit young to be drinking, don't you think?" Hope's eyes almost do a full roll when she recognizesw the voice. She puts the glass down, somewhat aggressively, as if to act as some kind of warning. A sigh follows, tumbling from her lips as she spins on her chair, preparing for some long-ass speech about how she's better than this and should turn her switch back on. Blah blah blah.

"What are you doing here Jo-"

To her surprise, when they come face to face, Josie doesn't look like her usual self - the dull, boring Josie that humanity Hope seemed to be rather fond of. She's dressed darker, in an all-black outfit, and her hair matches it too. Not to mention her eyes. There's something in them, something Hope recognizes, something that she feels within herself too, something that has the voice of her humanity self screaming to be let out, to help in any way she can. It's something Hope saw when Josie forced her sister into doing the Merge early.

She likes it. She thinks it looks rather good on Josie.

"I'm here to see you, isn't it obvious?" Dark Josie laughs before taking a seat to the left of Hope. She notes how there are not many other people there. "Y'know I found my father in the town square, and I just knew it was you. Interesting work you've done."

"Why thank you." She takes a sip of her drink. "I wanted to stop everyone from following me, though I guess that didn't work."

Dark Josie shrugs.
