Authors note:
This is a Hosie adaptation of an already written Avatrice story I've been doing on ao3. As with the last story, I will be continuing it over there, but I wanted to let you guys here know so you could check it out if you wish! Because its an adaptation, there may be more mistakes. So please point them out if you see them. The main plot is the same, but some things will be different to the Avatrice version. Enjoy :)

This includes the first three chapters, the fourth is already up on ao3.

Hope and Josie are roommates, but they aren't the closest of friends. Not yet. When Kym suggests Josie fake dates somebody to get an ex off of her back, everything changes.

"And how was your Christmas break?" Kym asks. "How was it spending it with your aunt?" Josie's smile drops slightly, revealing her true feelings to her friend.

"It was...nice. I mean, my parents have never made the kind of effort she did...not recently anyway...and not for me." She fidgets with her sleeves. "I only saw them once in passing, when I was going to see my sister, but they didn't say anything to me. It was rather brief."

"I'm sorry," Kym expresses her sympathy, as does MG.

"It's okay. Not your fault," Josie reassures her friends. "Let's talk about something else." She suggests, not wanting to dwell on this topic any longer.

They switch gears and discuss the classes they are currently pursuing as part of their degree programs this semester. Kym is thrilled to be studying English and finally focusing on creative writing, which has always been her passion. She talks about the comic society she has been a part of since September, which is where she met MG. They became friends swiftly (bringing Josie in weeks later to make it a trio - a rather unlikely trio, but one that fits well, like pieces of a puzzle). MG talks about his art course and how it's helping him draw the comics that Kym writes. Josie shares details of the classes she's taking as part of her medicine major as well as her minor in music, which she hopes will either lead her into a musical future or a future as a doctor. She discusses the mixed martial arts club she has recently joined as a way to get out of her comfort zone a bit, to try something new. And how, other than her music, it has been a great way to release stress and energy.

The conversation eventually shifts to Josie's roommate, who has yet to return from the Christmas break. The mere mention of her roommate's name, Hope, sends Josie on a tirade about her untidiness and disruptive behavior, such as coming home smelling of alcohol, even on weekdays. She never even seems bothered by any of it. They have other flatmates, but they all do their part in keeping their shared kitchen clean. It's just that Hope is the only one she really sees because they were destined into sharing a room, a recipe for disaster. "She's just so infuriating," Josie vents to her friends, both with sympathetic looks on their faces. "I mean, she's always leaving her dirty soccer clothes everywhere, or dirty plates and cups that sometimes are lying around so long they grow mold."

"Gross," Kym jabs.

"I know! But it's been peaceful this past week since I've been back and she hasn't. Do you notice how serene it is around here?" Josie continues her rant. She admits her roommate gets on her nerves more than most people, even though she doesn't have to share a room with anyone else. Just her. Just Hope.

The door suddenly swings open, hurling against the wall. It sends papers flying across the floor. Pictures almost fall from their places. "Speak of the devil," Josie mutters, referring to the unexpected arrival of her roommate, Hope. Hope hears but doesn't respond, instead merely entering the room and dumping her case at the end of the bed. She takes out her earphones, noticing the presence of her roommate and roommate's friends for the first time. "You're back," a sarcastic Josie greets Hope.
