"Ow– what the–?!"
You cussed as your toe was hit by a large book. You quickly covered your mouth, holding in your screams of pain which you prayed didn't attract any attention.
The library was lightly dimmed as a book shelf towered over you, you heard a few heavy footsteps coming over as you quickly hid wherever you could and sighed in relief when the footsteps started getting distant.
"Phew.." you exhaled, wiping a fake sweat off your forehead.
"I still don't get why I'm needed here."
Recall: After escaping the maze with the help of your sworn enemy, Kaedehara Kazuha, you agreed to be his friend.
Back to present: You jumped in surprise, completely forgetting the second person who was there with you the whole time. Xiao stood there, unfazed with his arms crossed.
"Xiao! Gosh, you scared me!" You yelled in a hushed manner but then you sighed, "listen, if we want to get what we're looking for, we need to stay extra quiet, okay?" You whispered.
"You're the only one making noise here." Xiao replied, "and, what exactly are we looking for?"
You hummed, ignoring his question as you continued to walk using the tip of your toes onto the other row of bookshelves.
You pulled Xiao out of his cafe shift and invited him to sneak into the library with you. It was nearing midnight and the lack of people in the library was an opportunity to sneak in and get what you'd been looking for.
"Hello? Are you even listening?" Xiao asked, snapping his fingers while you stared at him dead in the eye before breaking eye contact and tippy toeing to another book shelf. "If you don't reply I'm going to scream."
"What?!" You asked, before sighing in relief and turning your attention to somewhere else again.
"What are we looking for?" He asked.
"What do you think? A secret ID that can allow us to enter a government only safe security zone?" You asked sarcastically, but he stared at you, confused, clearly not getting the joke.
"What–?" "We're looking for a book!!" You yelled in a hushed tone. "I knew I should've bought Shinobu instead."
"Hey, if you don't want me here, then I'll leave. It's not like I want to be here either." Xiao replied, but you were way too focused on your search to even notice his words. "Oh my god! Here it is!" You almost dropped the book when you found it.
You held it in your hands and hugged it before slamming it open and quickly flipping through the pages. Xiao raised his eyebrow as he saw the title of the book.
'THE KAEDEHARA'S: A BOOK OF FAMILY HISTORY'
"Is this another way of saying, ' I'm totally obsessed with the guy I've been spying on and I want to know more about his family'?" Xiao asked while you choked on your saliva.
"What? No! It's just– you wouldn't understand, okay?!" You replied, focused on the book in front of you as you flipped the pages, searching for a familiar face.
