CHAPTER SEVEN: co-captain

"Allison? Ally?" Erebus Argent lowly questioned when hearing the older one sneak out of her room. "Al?" The girl had already walked down the the stairs and was turning.
Erebus followed. He wasn't about to get in trouble for Allison leaving the house. Although, Chris may not blame him, Kate would. The girl had gone to the garage.
Erebus opened the passenger door, making her jump. "What are you doing?" Erebus questioned.
"What are you doing?" Allison shot back. "You should be asleep."
"Just because you're older doesn't mean I've got to answer you first. I asked first. And-" Erebus started before the garage door clatters. "Close the door."
Allison quickly pulled the door closed before both of the cousins had pushed the seats back.
"It hasn't been an issue since we lived here," Chris says.
"All I'm saying is that firing those things so close by is bound to draw some attention," Kate answered.
"These things have saved my life more than once, and I know how to be inconspicuous when I need to," Chris placed whatever it was he was holding down.
Kate scoffs. "This coming from a man whose preferred weapon is a crossbow. You know, these extra skills are something you could be teaching your daughter..."
"Not yet."
"Ever?"
"Not. Yet." Chris says. "How about Erebus?"
"What about Erebus?" Kate asked.
"Are you going to teach him?"
"Please. He can barely handle school," Kate says, going to lie. "He couldn't handle this."
Chris paused, trying to think of what to answer to that. He had tried to speak to Kate about her parenting once before. It lead to an almost two hour argument and Kate practically dragging Erebus out of his bed and done the stairs. He didn't get how his sister could be such a horrible parent. He couldn't recall her speak about Erebus in a nice term more than once.
