Field filled with Ghosts

"I didn't know you knew LT?" Soap said as he walked alongside me. I rolled my eyes in response and kept on walking.

"So, you two have history huh?" Soap chuckled and wigged his eyebrows. The way he looked at me and the way he phrased it made my blood boil.

"If we were trapped in a room together, I would strangle him without any hesitation," I stated and quickened my pace. "Now stop focusing on my life and focus on the mission at hand." I heard Soap chuckle and raised his hands in defence.

"No worries, will I at least get to hear how you two know each other?" Why is he so eager to know? I am sure a lot of people know Ghost. I just sighed and left it at that.

We soon made it to the meeting room where Laswell greeted us. The room wasn't too full, meaning the mission didn't require too many soldiers. I leaned up against the wall at the back of the room. I felt eyes on me, and I knew immediately who it was. I didn't even bother looking at him.

Once Laswell was certain that everyone was there, she projected a map onto the board.

"Good evening, everyone, glad you could make it on time. I'll give a brief explanation of the plan." Laswell started and turned towards the board. "Airstrikes are hitting enemy positions bordering Al Mazrah. Intel confirms a concentration of AQ fighters converging in the valley. We believe they're protecting something. Surveillance indicates soldiers guarding three structures...Major Hassan may be holed up inside." Laswell turned to look at Me, Soap, and Ghost.

"Ghost, Poltergeist and Soap will lead a Marine Special Operations unit to kill or capture Hassan, tonight. Poltergeist will be leading Alpha Team." I knew very well that this was a recipe for disaster or a recipe for success. It is always a gamble. Either the main goal of the mission would drive us to just deal with each other and work together or we would be at each other's throats because we both will be leading a unit. I also noticed Ghost did not look happy in the slightest.

"One helo will insert two teams at separate offset points bordering the target area. Bravo Team will sweep the clear buildings one and two. Alpha Team takes building three. All shooters have executed authority, but we want Hassan alive for interrogation. Be advised. Major Hassan is AQ's lifeline. If he is there, they will die for him. Good hunting." Laswell concluded and dismissed us.

I turned towards a table that had some weaponry on it, I decided to take an M4 Carbine and an M3 Trench Knife. As I was putting the knife into its holster, I felt a presence behind me. "Go away." I was not in the mood for him right now.

"You better watch your attitude on this mission Poltergeist." The seething anger in his voice made it clear that this mission was not going to be all smooth sailing.

"If this is your way of intimidating people, I would suggest finding a better strategy. Now move before I shove this M4 up your ass." I spat and turned to look at him. His glare would've been able to kill 100 men, but I was used to it. I bumped his shoulder as I passed and felt his gaze on me.

I met up with Soap at the helo and he knew right off the bat that I was very on edge. "I am guessing Ghost decided to chat with an old friend." He chuckled and was met with my cold glare.

"I would not say an old friend. More as if an old knife in my side." I scoffed and entered the helo. I could hear Soap laughing a little bit as he got onto the helo. As I sit down, I pulled up my mask over my nose. I use the mask to conceal myself as much as possible for optimal stealth.

I saw someone sitting down on the seat across from me and without a doubt it was Ghost. His eyes dug holes into my own. The helicopter took off and we were on our way to Al Mazrah. Soon enough we ended up just staring daggers at each other and the tension just grew thicker by the minute.
