Comfort from a Ghost

She knew my name? She knew my full name! How?! No one else knew my full name except for Captain Price, Laswell, and General Shepherd. I never met Valeria before in my life. My heart fell to my stomach as she said my name. Ghost noticed immediately that I seemed on edge. He only took noticeable glances at me but never said a word. We made it to base, and Graves immediately dragged Valeria to a room to interrogate her. I dreaded going into that room with Valeria.

Graves pushed Valeria to a chair in the middle of the room. I stood in the back of the room opposite where Ghost was standing.

"Have a seat." Graves said in a sarcastic tone. "Alright, how do you two know each other?"

Graves motioned to Alejandro and then at me.

"Know is a strong word." Alejandro sighed.

"Strong words are important," Valeria commented sarcastically. "Our word is our worth, right?"

Alejandro cursed at her in Spanish and stormed up to her. Rodolfo stopped him and Soap held him back.

"Yeah! Yeah!." Alejandro sighed and held his vest as he turned to her. "Vamos, tell them."

"I don't take orders anymore." Valeria glared at him and then looked at Graves. "Even the dogs in Las Almas know not to bark at me."

"Look at this- "Alejandro chuckled as he turned to Rodolfo and then looked at Graves. "She is ex-military. We served together."

Valeria leaned back on the chair as she crossed her legs.

"Different squads, same unit," Valeria informed. "You were the wild ones, huh...'los vaqueros.'"

Alejandro smiled wickedly at the mention of his squad.

"My squad was clean cut señores y señoras..." Valeria looked right at me.

"Until the raid on the son of La Araña. Do you remember?" Alejandro smiled angrily.

"I remember perfectly," Valeria smirked.

"Her team was told to cordon off the city to keep out La Araña's enforces and prevent the bloodshed." Alejandro scowled.

"That's exactly what we did," Valeria said so matter a factly.

"Well, you kept out his enforces, because you were his enforces, huh?" Alejandro spat at her.

"He was escorted to the mountains without incident," Valeria smirked. "Also, to prevent bloodshed."

"He was supposed to go to prison," Rodolfo spoke up.

"So, you killed him, and you took over." Graves pushed Valeria back into her seat.

"I created a power vacuum." Valeria turned to Graves. "And I filled it. Las Almas needs me."

"Las Almas needs soldiers, not sicarios..." Alejandro corrected her. "And you..."

Alejandro leaned down to Valeria's eye level.

"You disgrace the army." Alejandro spat at her and then backed off from her.

"Why're you doin' this?" Graves asked.

"You tell me. You are the contractor, no?" Valeria turned to him and furrowed her eyebrows. "What you don't do your competitors will."

"You are a narco, harbouring a terrorist." Ghost corrected her. I folded my arms and looked down at my feet.

"Terrorism is good for business," Valeria smirked. "It's insurance."
