Keith's POV
The ambulance spills into the hospital parking lot. The fluorescent light buzzing in the silence. The back doors open and the ramp is lowered. Two nurses drag Lances bed out of the vehicle with me following behind.
The hospital smells of mint and water, sterile. The nurses drag Lance's bed into a room and say that a doctor will be with us in a bit. They point me towards a chair and bring me water. They say I am clearly shaken up, I can't say I disagree. The Nurses have hooked lance up to a water bag, he was dehydrated when brought in. He looks so peaceful when his eyes are closed but its hard to take comfort in that fact when its not because of sleep.
Why did this have to happen? It was such a good night, it was not supposed to end in a hospital room.
"K-k-keith." His whisper is barley recognizable because of his raspy, quiet voice. My head spins around to look at him. He looks a little pale, his beautiful tan skin tinged green. I stand up and move the chair to his bedside and sit down again.
"Hey baby, it's okay i'm right here. You're okay," I mutter while slowly stroking his hair. "How are you feeling?"
"Better now that I can see your face. Although my head hurts like a bitch, and whatever they did to my head to "fix" it hurts." He laughs as he slowly reaches up to stroke my face. I lean into it his palm warm on my cold cheek. He's here and he's alive, my baby, alive. I feel him wiping away the tears before I even realize I am crying.
"Hey baby, it's okay. I am okay, we're okay." He wipes away more fallen tears and speaks in a loving whisper. A soft knock on the door breaks our loving silence. A female walks in, Lance's chart in hand.
"Hello, my name is Doctor. Lilly and I will be fixing you up for today. So, I see you had quite a tumble today. You have a minor concussion and a gash on the back of your head but those are easy fixes." She says to Lance.
"Okay, now what?" He asks.
"Well there is not much I can do for the concussion but I can redo the stitches and clean the wound better for you. You will then have to stay here for the night while we monitor you but you should be able to go home tomorrow." She responds.
"Okay, sounds good, thank you doc."
Doctor. Lilly preps her needle and thread and carefully re stitches Lance up then covering the wound with gauze. After she is finished she leaves him with instructions to get some rest and she sends in a bed for me.
Once everything is set up and the lights are turned off Lance and I settle into our respective beds. I turn to face him as him me and the moon shines across his face, illuminating his ocean blue eyes.
"Lance." I whisper
"Yeah?" He replies
"I'm sorry, so so sorry. I feel terrible that the night ended like this."
"Baby, baby, it's okay. None of this is your fault. Please don't be sorry."
"I'm so thankful you are okay, I don't know what I would do if you weren't." I start to sob as I talk to him.
"Baby, come here. Let me hold you." He says and opens the blanket of his bed for me. I nod my head an slowly crawl into his arms, sobbing into his chest.
"Shhh baby, it's okay. We're okay. I've got you." He soothes and we slowly drift off to sleep.
