Illika
The yelling is what wakes me.
The shouts and screams – angry by the sounds of it – pull me from my deep slumber, leaving me drowsy and confused. But as I blink away the sleepiness, the clearer my thoughts become. And curious, I pry myself from my bed and shuffle to my door, opening it.
The hall is empty with not a soul to be seen, but I can still hear the yells. I can tell that it is men shouting in angry bursts, but I can't tell who and nor do I know where they are.
Fueled by intrigue, I leave my room, padding into the hall as I follow the bellows. It's not a difficult thing to do. They're so loud and obnoxious that it's almost as if I'm tracing a red thread – easy and effortlessly.
I round a corner, finding Toga, who is coming from the direction of the shouts. Her eyes meet mine and she smiles, approaching me.
"Moring, Illie."
"Morning," I say with a yawn. "Hey, do you by chance know what all the yelling is about?"
"Oh, that?" She motions at where the shouts are reverberating from. I nod and she sighs. "Stupid Mirage and Blain. They're having a complete fit."
"Over what?"
"Re-Destro and Shigaraki basically told them it's time they get off their asses and work."
"And they're freaking out over that?"
"Basically."
More shouts and screams. Temperamental and very angry yells fueled by hatred. And more than a little disruptive.
"Why are they so pissed?" I ask.
She shrugs. "Can't say, but it's irritating. They're getting on my nerves." Her stare returns to the direction of the yells. "I'm pretty sure they're still against serving anyone aside from Re-Destro."
I already know about the twins' protests against Tomura and the League. They are loyalists to Re-Destro and his former group of the MLA. They do not approve of or accept the merger of the MLA and the LOV. And even with their loyalty to Re-Destro, they refuse to do as they're told because they believe any orders he gives are actually orders from Tomura, and they do not want to serve him.
And I know Tomura was growing tired of their refusal to work. He had mentioned that before, but I never imagined they would react this way when approached. It's ridiculous and juvenile.
I cross my arms over my chest. "I admire their loyalty and even applaud it, but I don't understand their mentality. Things have changed since they went to prison. Can't they just adjust like everyone else? They've been out long enough."
"You'd think." She returns her stare to me. She observes me briefly before shrugging. "I don't know, and I don't care. I say we cut our loss and move on. They're clearly not going to be useful."
"Almost makes it feel like busting them out was a waste of time."
"It was, but it is what it is."
The shouts continue to break through the air, rummaging through my ears as the anger in their tones falls to my chest. I can hear and feel the venom in their tones. I can even practically taste it. It's bitter and sour. I don't like it.
"I see a new bruise," Toga says abruptly, pulling me from my thoughts.
I blink, turning to look at her. Her eyes are already fixated on me with a flat and bored expression. She continues.
"So, are we still pretending like Tomura and you aren't sneaking around, or are you ever going to come clean?"
I straighten my posture. "I've already told you. There's nothing going on between Tomura and me."'
