"Great. What the fuck do we do now?"
My throat hurts, burning with this sharp roughness that scrapes along my voice with each syllable that falls from my tongue. It feels so foreign and strange to me. I don't like it. And I don't like this foggy feeling in my head. This all pisses me off.
And who was it that said that anyway? Who was the one that asked that? I look around, glancing from face to face. They are all here, looking at me, blinking. And they all look...different, but the same, as well.
That's when I realize, I am standing. But when did I stand up? When did that happen? And why does my throat hurt so much? Was...was that me who asked that? Everything is so foggy and strange.
"Shigaraki, I must apologize," Re-Destro says, standing. He comes to a straight posture, then bows. "I am sincerely sorry for all of this, and I sincerely apologize on Asahi and Akihiko's behalf. This whole situation could have been avoided had I said something sooner. We could have prevented this, and that fault falls on me."
There is sincerity in his voice, but I don't care. All I want is to find those two idiot twins and bash their skulls together. But that's not all I want. There's far more I want to do to them. Wring their necks and blooding their faces does nothing to bring me joy. What will bring me joy is erasing them from existence.
And her.
God, it hasn't even been twenty-four hours yet, and I still can't shake this feeling. This dread. This worrying. This fear. Hadn't he mentioned something about her injury? An infection, maybe? God. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
I inhale, then exhale. "They will get theirs, and you will get yours."
"Of course, Grand Commander." He stands properly.
"Great. Glad we've handled that, but now what?" Dabi asks, his tone even and unfazed. "If you haven't pieced it together, we still have no idea where they are, or how to find them."
More dread feeding into the fire within myself, and I realize he is right. We are still standing here emptyhanded, not a damn idea as to what to do. And I feel as if I could boil over, but before I can, Compress's voice breaks through the space between us.
"Actually, though I didn't know how this call would end, I managed to throw together a quick plan."
We all turn, looking at him, then Spinner asks, "You did? How?"
Compress shrugs. "I suspected they would eventually call with some agreement, so I arranged for Skeptic to be at the ready to tap the call."
"You're saying, he tracked them?" Spinner questions.
"Hopefully. That said, I wasn't expecting them to call this early, so I am hopeful he was able to set up in time to pinpoint their location."
"Still, pretty good plan," Spinner says.
"Thank you."
"I'm surprised you were able to get him to agree," Dabi interjects.
"On the contrary, it was easier than expected."
Skeptic. I almost forgot about him. So much so that I hadn't even considered him in aiding in this. Thank God for Compress and his quick wit.
"So, where is tech-boy?" Dabi asks, the hint of snark pulling at his tone.
"I prefer you don't call me that, but I've been in here the whole time," Skeptic says, walking out of a side room. He closes the door behind himself, carrying his laptop. "I had to rush to setup, but to answer your concerns, I was able to ping them."
He comes close, setting the device on the desk surface. We all gather around, staring at the screen. I can feel the light reflect in my eyes, a series of lines and numbers humming at us. And then, he presses a single button, revealing a red dot.
"There," he says, pointing at the dot. "That's where they are. Or, at least where the call was made."
"What does that mean?" Dabi snaps.
Skeptic sighs. "It means that it's likely the call was made on a mobile phone, and if that's the case, also likely they went somewhere else aside from their hideout to make the call."
"Which means the coordinates could still be incorrect," Compress finishes. "Finding them is going to be much harder than we thought."
"Only if they thought to go to a different location," Skeptic says. "If I remember anything about those two, they're not always quite that thorough. Not with coming up with their own plans, anyway."
"So, there is a possibility?" Re-Destro asks.
Skeptic nods. "Yes. If nothing else, it's a starting point. Even if this isn't their den, I doubt they'd stray far from it." He turns and looks at me. "That's all I can do, though. I doubt they'll call again or accept any new calls, so it'll have to be all on you."
I nod. "It is something."
And it is. As I look at that little red dot, watching it pulsate on the screen, it is her face that crosses my mind. She is there. Or close to it. Regardless, she is close. So close that I want nothing more than to run out there and get her myself. To save her and whisk her away. But I only ball my hands into fists.
"We're going to get her."
