It was Thursday afternoon in Nockfell High. Sal, Todd, Larry, and Ash were talking in the halls. They dropped their book-bags off to their lockers before lunch like they did everyday.
"Dude, what's with Travis? He's less annoying than usual." Larry looked away from Travis as he opened up his locker.
Inside it was some books, pencils—and on the door, photos of his friends, and some metal bands. He glanced back over to Travis who looked cheery. It was very odd."I know why," Sal closed his locker, making a loud banging sound, "it's bologna Day."
Larry rolled his eyes, suddenly no longer hungry. 'Who knew lunch could dictate someone's mood this much?' He closed his locker.
Ashley looked at sal like a deer in headlights. "You're joking—" she swung her backpack off her shoulder and sat it on the floor.
"Ugh, I completely forgot, I should've packed. The bologna is like rotten or something I swear," her face scrunched up, her lock clicked open and she opened the door. She picked up her bag and sat it inside."I can't do another day without lunch guys." Her face was serious as she grabbed her growling stomach.
She closed her locker softly and sighed.
The others laughed, and just then they heard the sound of squeaking sneakers come up to them. Everyone looked, and Sal being the only one who had his back turned, turned around to see their friend—Chug."Hey guys guess what's for lunch!" he grinned.
"Bologna." Ashley said in a somber voice, pretending to be faint and falling onto Larry. Hand on her forehead and everything.
"Ash— you'll survive." He said catching her.
"I don't know if I will." She sat for a moment and then picked herself up off of Larry.
(Travis stood across the hall from them, smile fading. He was staring daggers into the group. He hated how happy they all seemed, he hated they could be their own people. They all seemed to be such great friends to one another as well. He envied them so much... Travis deep in thought eventually turned back to his locker to fish out a pen and paper from his backpack.)
"It's not thaaaat bad—give it a chance." Chug crossed his arms and looked to the others. His smile faded, he pursed his lips and thought for a moment,
"Oh well, more for me."
He shrugged, and gave a big toothy grin. The others smiled.
They all continued conversation till the bell rang for lunch.-
Sal was walking back to his table, the sad bologna sandwich rested on his tray. As he walked he looked over to Travis. He was sitting at his lunch table, all alone, scribbling away on some paper. He couldn't help but feel a sense of empathy for him.
Travis happened to glance up directly at Sal, they made eye contact. Travis's face went red before it contorted to a look of disgust. He gave Sal a judgmental look and sal immediately looked away. Continuing to his table.
Travis quickly brought his head back down and continued writing on the piece of paper. Biting his lips.
Eventually he slammed the pen down on the table and held his head in his hands. He looked upset.'What was that about?' Sal couldn't help but wonder as he continued over to his friends.

Larry took a bite of his sandwich, his eyes immediately went wide. A look of nausea and disgust washed over his face. He chewed quickly and forced it down, "that was—" He gagged, "worst thing I've ever tasted, how did it get worse?" He chugged down his milk carton. School chocolate milk, just the best.
"Well it's school balogna what did you expect?" Ashley said, picking up the dry bread and showcasing the beautiful pink meat underneath. "Isn't that appetizing?" She tried to make a joke but ended up grossing herself out even more. She put the bread slice back over the meat and wiped her hands on her pants to rid them of bread crumbs.
Larry had milk dripping down his face as he looked at ash."Hm, Hey Chug—Maple—does the Bologna taste weird to you guys?" Sal looked at them but all he got in return was a semi unimpressed stare from Maple, and chug happily chewing down his food.
"Nope, taste like balogna." Maple said as she took another bite of her sad meal, she then put it down and reached over to open her milk carton.
Chug swallowed his bite just as maple grabbed her milk.
"Tastes delicious as usual." The others, not including maple, just looked at him. Larry was astonished he could even stomach it...They all sat and listened to the cafeteria noise, just looking at their trays. Todd spoke up,
"If we aren't eating why not bring it to the lab to see if anything gross is in it? I'm bored."
He took the lunch meat off the bread, inspecting the random meat chunks stuck inside the rest of the ground up meat. He stood, Ash looked at Todd and then at the meat he was holding. "Oo, sounds fun, I'm gonna come with." She wiggled herself off the bench and went to follow him...
