As I tighten the strap on Mays saddle I hear a small creaking noise behind me. I whip my head around to see Kayce sneaking into the barn attempting to be as quiet as possible.

"Sorry I thought nobody would be up yet" He whispered and stopped at the door to the colt he had brought days before.

"What are you even doing here this early. That's a long drive from the Rez at 5:00 am" I shake the saddle to make sure it's secure and take her reins in my hand.

"Me Monica and Tate stayed here last night in one of the cabins so I decided to take an early ride just to see the sunrise. I kind of forgot what it looked like" He smile in reminiscence. "Plus I gotta break this colt somehow so why not get a pretty view out of it" I know he was talking about the sunrise but I couldn't help but hope maybe he was talking about me too.

"Uh well I was just about to head out if you want to join" I might be seeing things but his eyes lit up just a tiny bit when I asked.

"Yeah that would be great actually let me just saddle him up and i'll meet you out there" A gave him a small nod and walked May outside the barn to the corrals. It was still dark out, the sun hadn't made its journey to the horizon like yet but the mountains were still a breathtaking sight. It's weird to imagine life without this view.

"You ready" Kayce voice spoke and without saying anything I just started off on the trail on May.

We didn't speak the whole ride until we came up on a stream and decided to stop to give the horses a break and a drink of water. I strolled along the rocks of the stream when the snap of a twig caught my attention. A bear stood not even 10 feet away quietly growling. My heart raced in my chest as I thought of what to do. Before I could react a strong hand grabbed my arm and pulled away and through the woods out into the pasture. The bear followed in suit bellowing out scaring the living shit out of me.

"I'm gonna die aren't I" I mumbled to myself.

"Woah easy bear" Kayce tried to calm it down but that really isn't how you deal with this situation. I started to holler at the top of my lungs trying to seem bigger than the bear. I coaxed Kayce to do the same and as he started to scream a gunshot rang across the field making the beat scurry back into the words. I turned toward the noise and found Rip riding up to us.

"You could get in trouble in the church" Rip grunted "Stood your ground though" He shot me a glance and I knew i'd be in trouble later.

"I ain't used to seeing you off my dads leash" Kayce retorted fixing his hat back on his head.

"What's that?" Rip growled hopping off his horse.

"I didn't stutter" Jesus were these two 5?

Rip came towards Kayce motioning to himself "Go ahead come on" Kayce threw a punch knocking Rip straight in the face. Rip took no time to return the favor and lunge at Kayce. Those two tousled to the ground before Rip delivered a final punch to the Kayce and stood back. I didn't know what to do so I just stood back and watched. This wasn't something I should get in the way of.

"You still can't take a punch though" Rip sighed getting back onto his horse turning him away from us.

"Where the fuck are you going" I shout at him. What a fucking brother he is.

"Ah there's work to be done. You do know what work is don't you Kayce?" Rip mocked "Course you don't, you got your wife for that" Rip snickered.

"Shut the fuck up Rip" I hissed. I don't know why I was defending Kayce but I don't think anyone should be talked to in that kind of way.
