Chapter 25

James walked into the warriors packhouse and down the first hall to the right. All the way at the end of the hall is Eden's room. James paced back and forth outside her door trying to figure out what he would say to her. Just when he thought he had an idea he decided to knock. He immediately regretted that decision but it was too late as he heard a voice from inside call out to him.

Eden was just getting out of the shower when she heard 3 small knocks on her door. "Just a minute!" She yelled as she wrapped a towel around her middle and tucked it in at the top. Eden peeked out her bedroom door to see James standing there rubbing his knuckles between his fingers. She opened the door a little wider and revealed herself in a towel to him, but James just pushed his way through. 'Again?' She thought to herself. 

Once inside, James stood in the bedroom so he could look into Eden's eyes to tell her the truth. Even though he could see the questions in her face, James revealed to her that he has an arranged marriage with the Everguard Kingdom. James said the two of them could never be together. He has a duty to fulfill and he will do it for Greycrest's alliance with Everguard and the safety of all their people. 

Eden, still wearing nothing but her towel, sat down on her bed. The shock of the situation was breaking her heart. Eden had always dreamed of one day finding, and being with, her destined mate as she was growing up. Since James wouldn't claim her, it had made her terribly sad all these months. However, to find out that he wants her but can't have her just shattered Eden.

She began to cry. James sat next to her and held her in his arms for the first time. She buried her head into his sweaty gray uniform shirt and he pulled her wet hair out of her face. The mate bond pulled out all the fireworks though, and James lowered his arm to the small of Eden's back. His sadness intertwined with hers when James picked up Eden's face to look at her. 

When their eyes met, the same fire red glowed within them, and James leaned in to kiss Eden. The sparks that had been felt in their bodies was now in their kiss. They couldn't pull away from each other now if they wanted to. 

James pulled Eden onto his lap without ever taking his lips off of hers. He unwrapped the towel from her body, and laid them both down on the bed.

James's trance was also broken and he sat straight up on his elbows to lock faces with Eden. Their fire red eyes met and beamed a bright light into the dark room. Fear began to fill James when he saw his lycan teeth marks buried in Eden's neck.
