Eden heard the Rogue Alarm go off and opened her door to watch the Warriors head out again.  She met the disapproving eyes of Rafe. He heard what had happened in her room just moments earlier. Not many on the first floor missed their moans. Rafe side-smiled sadly in her direction then took off the opposite way down the hall where he shifted into the night.

Eden was overcome with guilt. Her and Rafe had been an item for so long and the last she wanted to do was hurt him. She was also feeling guilty about never being able to go out into the fights with her fellow warriors. James had always forbid it, but he wasn’t around, that she could tell anyhow, so she closed her door to put on her Warrior uniform.

Eden was still a bit nervous to shift into her lycan form in front of anyone yet. However, she wanted to prove herself. So Eden left her bedroom, and snuck down the hallway to the front door of the Warrior’s Packhouse, only to be met by James’ angry face.

James had left his fathers bedside in the castle to run as fast as he could to get to Eden before the attack fell on the Warrior’s packhouse. Beta Brady followed closely behind James to ensure their safety. However, just as Eden swung the door open to run out to the fight, James growled in a low tone, and then grabbed her by her wrist forcing her towards him out into the courtyard. “We have to go to the castle, NOW!” James ordered Eden.

Eden saw the fight in the courtyard as James was dragging her to the castle, several Warriors jumped in to help guard them from the rogue attack. The rogue attack had seeped so far into the Kingdom because they had breached the boundary walls and gates. The Rogue Army had grown substantially now and their numbers were comparable to how many warriors were in the Greycrest kingdom.

Eden began to fight against James’ hold on her. She threw up her arm and it broke the hold he had on her wrist. “What are you doing? Where are we going? And WHY are you taking ME?” Her struggle to go to the fight was pissing James off. He then grabbed her up by her waist and threw her over his shoulder. This was not the time to explain things to her.

They dodged rogues and warriors falling all over the courtyard, as well as spears and swords that were swinging all around them. James leaped over body after body until they were inside the castle walls. He didn’t stop there though. James ran to the safe room where he then pulled Eden down to her feet.

“What are you doing? Where are you going?” Eden shouted almost in unison with another voice in the room. She turned to see the Queen had leaped to her feet behind her and shot her disdain at James. By the time Eden had turned back around, the safe room door was shut in her face and she was locked inside with Queen Livia, but James was on the other side.

Eden fell to the floor because she was clearly upset and confused. She wanted to be in that fight outside the walls. The thoughts were trampling her mind about James. He had claimed her by his bite now, but she was still unsure what it meant for them. Tears started escaping her eyes as Queen Livia came to wrap her arms around Eden in comfort.

Eden and Queen Livia spent hours in the safe room together. Eden kept the collar of her shirt up so the Queen could not see James’ bite mark. The two of them barely spoke, but the Queen told Eden about King Jack and how he passed earlier and how James will now be the King. Eden was shocked and saddened to hear this news. Then they sat quietly to not to bring attention to themselves in their tiny vault in case enemy ears were listening in.

Queen Livia realized Eden was James’s mate though when she saw James shove Eden into the safe room with her. She could smell his mark on her the whole time they were in there. His mother never said a word to Eden about the arranged marriage, but she knew it would bring trouble to her son and his destined mate.
