Is it a blessing or a curse to work under the Harbinger orders?

Getting well paid and having enough money to support your family or your loved ones. Showing your archon loyalty by working and fighting for her. But is that really worth putting your life at risk?

Even if having loads of money sounds nice, it didn't feel right to put someone's life at risk for receiving a bit more than usual. Supporting your loved ones, especially when they need it most, sounds like something any sane person would do.

But then there are humans, monsters, and Immortals like you that don't have someone they can reach out to. Someone they could support or help. No one, simply no one.
Would it have mattered if you ran away that night in the tavern?
Or if you would've escaped in one of the nights at the headquarters?
Would you end up like that missable man?
Or would you succeed in escaping?
Either way, would you really lose something?
Isn't it funny how there are the same possibilities of an outcome as in working in the Fatui?

Either you die or you complete the mission successfully.

Thoughts like these kept on crawling around your mind.
They were like questions you didn't know the answers to.
Sometimes it even felt like old memories.
Or something about them felt familiar.
Like you had already asked yourself the question multiple times, though that wasn't the case.
When has it started?
Not long ago, that's for sure.

You and Scaramouche were walking along a stony path. It felt indescribable to see all these different nations in such a short amount of time. They all looked outstanding in their very own way.
The nation so-called Liyue stood out from all the others, especially from Snezhnaya. It was much warmer here in Liyue, sometimes walking in the blazing sun for too long made you feel like you could break down to your knees from feeling too nauseous.  As if one could be rendered unconscious by the heat that glowed on the bare skin.

Luckily for you, the unbearable heat of the glowing sun had finally come to an end. The sun was setting, turning the sunset-coloured sky into a sky full of stars.
Was this the first time you have ever seen them?
It didn't feel like it.

Quickening your speed you ran up to Scaramouche
"Sir, it's getting late, perhaps we should find a place to stay for the night"
Scaramouche tilted his hat up to get a better view of his surroundings
"There should be a Fatui camp nearby."
He dryly spoke and kept walking.

Before you knew it, the two of you had arrived. You raised an eyebrow by noticing that no guards were anywhere to be seen. You turned to look at him, asking
"Are there no guards guarding them?"
Scaramouche crossed both his arms, exclaiming
"You're gonna guard them for the night"
A small smirk appeared on his face. Showing how amused he was by teasing you around like this.
Letting you work twenty-four seven without any breaks really felt like torture.

Scaramouche went to the opening of the tent but before he went inside he turned back to you "Don't you dare fall asleep!"

"Yes sir!"
You responded with an exhausted smile. He then took his gigantic hat off and put it against one of the walls before actually disappearing inside the tent.
Looking around the place you noticed a few boxes that were stacked on top of eachother.
You sat down on one of them hoping that the final destination for the mission was close.
You let your head fall to the back of your neck, eyes being met with the dark blue night sky. Everywhere you looked you could see the glimmering lights of the stars.

Your eyelids began to feel heavy. Everything around you became quiet, no more bird sounds or frog noises could be heard. Only your own breath and thoughts were noticeable to you.
That was until your eyelids fell closed.

You were roused from your sleep by hearing some weird sounds near you. You quickly jumped off the box you were sleeping on a few seconds ago, pulled your sword out of the scabbard that was connected to your belt and returned to your fighting position.

The last time you fought alone, Scaramouche demanded you to call him as soon as you would do it again. Though, thinking that he was asleep right now and that you would have to wake him up just to inform him of the situation sounds a bit complicated.
So it might be a better solution to just fight alone this time.

As you continued walking you noticed a few traces on the floor. They looked like human ones, but much bigger. You sighed deeply, trying to calm your breath before continuing your search.

*Kreak*

The sound of a small branch cracking beneath your feet filled the quiet place.
You looked down and lifted your shoe, seeing the branch being broken into a million small pieces.
You rolled your eyes, about to take another step forward, that was till you heard a silent growl coming from right in front of you.
Slowly turning your gaze to the source of the sound you saw a horde of hillichurls glaring at you.
Your heart dropped at that very moment. Every inch of your body shivered with fear.
There is no way you would win this fight. Not after what had happened. You had no other choice but to run.

And so you did. Pulling yourself together you turned to the side, running into the unknown. This wasn't what you had in mind when following some random traces on the floor. But here you were, running for your life. Your legs felt as heavy as stones. Was it because of the fear or because you ran for such a long time?
Once again you didn't know the answer.

You felt something cold touching your skin. Rain began to pour from the with clouds covered sky to the already muddy ground, turning your mission to escape this raid into a challenge.

Your breath began to hitch with fear. sounds of the hillichurls began to louden. Looking back at their distance you regretfully slid into the muddy ground. The hillichurls jumped on you, fighting against you like there was no tomorrow.
You tried to push them off your body but without much luck. Within seconds they approached you again, ready to use as much power as they had against you.
You could feel your body growing weaker each second. Wounds and cuts formed all over your body. You gritted your teeth before using the last ounce of strength to let out a loud scream, hoping that anybody would be as stupid to hear and come and help you.
A loud thunder struck seconds after your scream.
The heavy rain turned into a thunderstorm.
There was no hope left for you.

What made you think that you could become stronger?
You had no one to blame but yourself.
What a prophetic life.
Though, maybe it's better this way.

You led out a deep sigh before accepting your fate. Slowly Closing your eyes you suddenly heard a loud clashing sound coming from right above you.
The heavyweight of all the hilichurls pinning you down to the dirty floor disappeared. You couldn't help but be confused by what had happened.
How could someone react this quickly?! You opened your eyes while slowly lifting your head just enough to see what was going on.

There was some kind of human male-looking creature fighting against each and every one of the hillichurls with a long spear that he held in his hands. The mask that covered his face stood out the most. Every blinking second his movement changed. Compared to Scaramouche his aura felt much stronger. It surrounded his whole body like fire.

You could hear the cries of the dying hillichurls in the back as each and every one got slayed to the ground by the unknown creature.
Seconds later he walked up to you. He held the with blood covered polearm in his hands letting his mask disappear with the other.
He shot his piercing gaze down to your defenseless self, glancing at you emotionlessly.
His aura felt much stronger now. Your mind began to feel dizzy again. To the moment that your gaze went black.
